Posting this in here rather than fan art as many people have had a hard time visualising him, but of course feel free to move if this really is in the wrong place. Quick photoshopped mockup of Dain sporting a mohawk and riding a war boar - http://oi50.tinypic.com/rbcmky.jpg

I think it could look awesome if done correctly. And utterly abysmal if done wrong. Time will tell.

"'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!' Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face. 'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand. What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.''

The whole dwarf on wild boar thing will make a pretty good adversary for an orc on a warg

Seriously, snazzy mashup. But are we sure everything Billy Connolly has said about the Hobbit is true? So much of his comments come across as tongue-in-cheek, he is a comedian after all, and he kept giving so much information with no one (PJ) stopping him, whereas all the other cast members have been sparse. The boar and the mohawk could have just been his way of teasing fans, unless there was some bit of information I've missed, which is possible.

But then again if Syvester McCoy had said that he was riding around in a hare chariot I'd have laughed it off. If you look at Dwalin and Nori's haircuts it's not too much of a stretch to imagine a mohawk with tatoos on either side.

There's really no comedic reason to just make this stuff up. It is very likely that Dain will ride a boar, and have a mohawk!

If I was an actor with privileged information about a highly anticipated set of films, and was constantly questioned in interviews about the films (especially when the original intent of the interview had nothing to do with the films) I would greatly enjoy messing with the interviewer/obsessed fans (us). The comedic reason could be a simple combination of contractual obligation/personal-entertainment. But maybe I'm just making this argument because the idea of a mohawk on Dain sounds lame to me. The boar-riding sounds okay, though I always liked how the dwarves of the Iron Hills marched swiftly to help their kinfolk, showing their stamina and strength. It is likely, but we'll have to wait and see to know for sure. I'll hold onto hope until then.

I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't still march there on foot, no reason why they couldn't just have their leader and a few elite troops on mounts

I agree that it would be totally realistic to think he could have just been kidding or messing with fans given the hype and hysteria surrounding the whole project. But based on the fact that all of the 13 principal dwarfs in the quest look like comic book characters or parodies of one thing or another themselves, I'd have to think that at this point the chances of it being true are far more likely than it being a surprise to happen. For better or worse, all indications seem to be that this is going to be PJ's wild and wacky vision of Bilbo and Friends do Middle Earth. ron

Everything we've seen so far lends the most credibility to Connolly's comments. And it makes me sad. I'm still looking forward to the film, regardless of mo-hawks, starfish, and the Kili-man/dwarf.

In the latest production video, we see a quick shot of Thorin, leading some Dwarven soldiers. You may notuice a particular Dwarf on the far right. Could that actually be The Big Yin himself as Dain? I thought it might. I could be wrong though. (Check out the attachment I included.)
