Sorry Dennis.. [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't Think a Dwarve would Trust a "Burgler" with his
Facial Tress's..
someone within the Company has
Beard Braiding skills?
THAT...could be the only Reason
they were
Allowed to go
on this Road Movie?

Personally I'm ruling out
Ori..l since he is always
scribbling in his NoteBook.

Dori?
now that's another Question?

Not in the spirit of the thread [In reply to] Can't Post

But just thought I'd mention that in much of the Norse saga literature, warriors were often described as having braided hair and beards in battle, as that made it easier to keep their hair out of their field of vision. In fact, in some stories, warriors that are surprised by an unexpected battle are mentioned as "not having had time to braid their beards." This is replicated in the wonderful work of fiction "The Long Ships" by Frans Bengtsson.

I wonder if Lee, Howe or others had this sort of thing in mind when designing the dwarves.

Long hair [In reply to] Can't Post

braids and long hair were often used in the dark and middle ages to "pad" the inside of helmets for protection and soften blows.

Not to mention [In reply to] Can't Post

It is specifically noted in The Hobbit that the dwarves of the Iron Hills had forked and plaited beards.

He escaped Turambar's wrath, it would seem! Tongue

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

And tucked into their belts, even. [In reply to] Can't Post

I can understand (reluctantly Tongue) if they tought a beard long enough to be tucked into the belt too cumbersome for the main dwarves, but I do hope we'll get at least one dwarf, even if it's merely in the background, with a beard tucked into his belt.
