Apologies if this has been noted but I think this nails it. This is the original film synopsis released by WB: “The Hobbit” follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers" However the equivalent synopsis from the new app reads just as above (minus the actors names) until we get to: "Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Sorcerors" You will note that the Giant Spiders and Shapeshifters are now missing. For one i am pleased. I have always felt three films was a terrible idea - for just the hobbit story. I have come around to the idea now that we are getting lots of extra stuff and with that in mind having the split at the escape from Thranduil's halls on barrels is crazy as its way too much for one film in relation to the other two films - my worry being either film 2 or 3 would be mostly filler. I am disappointed i wont get to see Beorn or Mirkwood but then if it makes a better film overall - i think it will, then i am pleased about it. Confirming it for the optimists i think!

Everyone seemed convinced for a while that a splitting point somewhere in Mirkwood was inevitable, which wouldn't have been too egregious, IMO...but it seems that the light of the "post-Misty Mountains ending for AUJ" star wanes in the growing shadow of Appron. Ironically, PJ was careful not to fully reveal anything pertaining to "Film 1" in the vlogs...but now quite a bit of what we saw them filming for Film 1 (Mirkwood, Bilbo in the tree/Thorin shooting the stag, Legolas/someone approximating Tauriel fighting Orcs ETC), should have been verboten as it's now going to in Film 2!
My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit" 5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck 4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot 3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan 2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate 1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

Since they thougt that would belong to another film order, two instead three. I´m happy however, find Mirkwood in film 2 makes more sense to me. The only worry is that everything happens too fast on film 3, Smaug and BOFA

Especially the face. Longer beard and hair on film Thorin and it would be a match. Certainly would be unexpected if they decided on four films! Perhaps they want to do the bridge film after all. Let the speculation begin

I must say, not even in my wildest dreams would I have expected TH to end before Beorn's. Unthinkable. Anywhere between Beorn's or Mirkwood seems like a good split to me...but not before.

In the near future: the spirit of Robert Jordan possesses PJ, and he decides to make a film trilogy for each chapter of TH. After a decade, with the series still incomplete, Christopher Lee passes away and Ian McKellan becomes too elderly to continue. So, PJ uses cutting edge Tupac hologram technology to press on with their likenesses anyways. 15 years later, each film of each of these trilogies has split into a trilogy, so that now there's a projected trilogy of trilogies for each chapter. Christopher Tolkien is now long dead, and PJ imports flashbacks to each of the major events in the history of Arda from the rest of the legendarium. 10 years after this, PJ himself is dead, and Kevin J. Anderson takes over writing the remaining screenplays, while an elderly but still spry Andy Serkis is promoted from 2nd unit director to film director. By now, cinema has largely become a thing of the past, and the finally completed 171 film series inspires a nostalgic revival of the medium. Each film earns over a billion dollars, and New Line Cinema finally surpasses Apple as the wealthiest corporation on the planet. The...end

The technology becomes so amazing that the characters are actually bought to life. Cinemas close after the remake of Free Willy when the audience are crushed from a 3 tonne whale. Luckily, they were able to use the disaster for Free Willy 7: Attack of the Big Willy.

Not trying to put the mockers on anything but only just spotted it. I can't think of any other reason why those two particular terms would be excised from an otherwise identical synopsis, I'm afraid. LR

The film would have been way too bloated with everything up to the elves in it. Just far too many random encounters with monsters and key characters being introduced late in the film.

Might have been mentioned before, but in the app they also list all the cast right down to Bret McKenzie, Conan Stevens and Manu Bennett...but no mention of Mikael Persbrandt, Lee Pace or -gasp - Evangeline Lilly anywhere! Like it or not...the eagle ending is settled folks!

At least now we'll get the 30 minute love scene between Gandalf and Galadriel (in slow mo) that would have otherwise been dumped into the extended edition. Now all they have to do is turn the encounter with the trolls into a 60 minute battle, and show the Shire scenes in real time, and we might just get an "epic" film that ends at the eagles
