Where did you get your copy from? I've looked in WHSmith but haven't been able to get my hands on one.

You definitely do not want to be within kicking distance in a fight!

I love all the detail they put into the costumes. Smile

"Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them.
Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you."

And the cost of gathering everyone together? [In reply to] Can't Post

And paying for places to stay (The Prancing Pony! Tongue)?

As for why he has so much money - not a clue. Perhaps his side of the family escaped with some of the treasure from Erebor?

Thorin did have a more impressive beard at one point, the longest and most luxurious beard ever, in fact, but he sold it to help fund the quest Tongue

Hehe. [In reply to] Can't Post

Perhaps there's a market for dwarf-beards, the bling-bling of dwarven fashion? After all, it doesn't explicitly say that the beard has to be attached to the chin for a dwarf to be considered impressive; Maybe just owning a detached beard is enough. Sly

Perhaps Nori's reputation comes from dealing with the black market of beard-distrubution? My, this answers so many questions! Laugh

There is so a market for this!

Thorin will make that sacrifice for the good of his people, and Nori is the middleman(dwarf).

Thorin is thus far my favorite dwarf [In reply to] Can't Post

In terms of his design - costume, hair, beard, all of it. He's not exactly the Thorin described in the books, but he's a right dwarven lord, that's for sure!

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAA! [In reply to] Can't Post

*clapping and laughing* Aww,. that was hilarious. I was thinking along those lines. I thought "wow, they are really going to put that quote in the books, when half of the Dwarves have minimal whiskers?!" On the other hand, since Gandalf's beard is only half its novel length, I think it makes me feel better that the Dwarves beards are in the medium range. If every dwarf had a beard longer than Gandalf's, I would be displeased.

To the OP, great links. I really enjoyed the full layout from the book. I hope some of the other character pages are soon forthcoming. Its September, so, with the exception of key scenes and the like, the time for secrecy is pretty much over.

"Did you know: Dwarves are very proud of their beards. The bigger the beard, the more impressive the dwarf!"

Thorin must be a nobody then Wink

"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!"
