The Hobbit chess set Can't Post

Following on from this thread, The Hobbit: Chess Set is released this week, 12/08/2012.

Does anyone have it on pre-order, or planning on buying it in the future? It will be interesting to see if it gives any hints on character appearances.

It might give a hint [In reply to] Can't Post

to the main thrust of the films... the Ring with the Eye of Sauron in the middle of it is hard to miss. Either they were going for a similar style of packaging as the LOTR sets

or they are trying to tell us something about the content of The Hobbit movie.

It's kind of surprising too that they are releasing this so far ahead of film 1. I don't remember these things showing up until well after FOTR.

Interesting. Thanks Daniel.

Thanks for this! [In reply to] Can't Post

It looks great, and I certainly didn't expect to see this for a long time. Aside from the obvious ones (i.e. Bilbo, Thorin, Gandalf etc), I wonder what other characters will be included, and what pieces they will represent.

Speculation [In reply to] Can't Post

We'll find out soon enough, but some idle specultion:

White:
King - Thorin
Queen - Galadriel
Rook - Gandalf
Bishop - Bard
Knights - Fili and Kili
Pawn - Bilbo

Black:
King - The Necromancer
Queen - Goblin King (? Shocked)
Rook - Bolg/Azog?
Bishop - Saruman?
Knights - Ringwraith?
Pawn - Orc

Smaug should *really* been in there....

I had a headstart considering that I own the LOTR chess set [In reply to] Can't Post

In which Gollum is one of the Bishops.

Blush
I'll blame it being in a cupboard in my parents house though!
