Anyone have any idea how much time/effort/money it costs to register a film title?

I was well and truly confused as to why these names would mean that the first title could change
..The land of long-forgotten name: ......no man may ever anchor near; ..No steering star his hope may aim, ......for nether Night its marches drear, ..And waters wide no sail may tame, ......with shores encircled dark and sheer. ..O! Haven where my heart would be! ......the waves beat upon thy bar ..For ever echo endlessly, ......when longing leads thy thought afar

it means a lot to me that you should think so. Now not to flood the thread more than needed, I would like to add here that "The Battle of Five Armies" has a flat ring to it, as others have remarked. However, I'm guessing the title will take on a special magnificence after we see it on screen -- especially now that they have the time to really give us a play by play.

I like them both. I like "There and Back Again" as an over-arching title, but that may be a bit much added to "The Hobbit". ?

the domain names one? Registering domain names is as much about staking out territory as it is about one's intentions to actually use the name for something. Perhaps they have some games in mind, or even the names of theme park rides, and are simply trying to block others from capitalizing on the names in future?

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit" 5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck 4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot 3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan 2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate 1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

I'm afraid I can't quite get behind The Hobbit: The Clouds Burst as a title. There's just something mildly goofy about that word – it's hard to imagine audiences taking to it. And I suppose The Hobbit: Queer Lodgings is out of the question.

Actually, the Sackville-Baggins Break-In would necessitate a fourth film of its own.

How Thorin learns to be more generous: valuing food, cheer and song over hoarded gold. But Bilbo seems to learn the exact opposite lesson when he goes home and hoards his earnings in Bag End after kicking the Sackville-Bagginses out - who BTW were only trying to share with the hobbit community! Bilbo's return home is a little like Thorin's greed-driven attempt to reclaim his gold.

The titles don't have to fully represent the content of each film. In film 3, Bilbo is still "there" (Erebor), and still goes "back again" (Hobbiton). No need to change it.

One of the most cliched notions of chapter titling or subtitling always has something to do with clouds, storms or gathering. It's way too obvious "The Gathering Shadow", "The Gathering Clouds" "The Gathering Evil" "The Dark Storm". I think Robert Jordan's last book (post-humous) has a subtitle like "Gathering Clouds". No thank you! It's about as irksome as the use of "Rise of .." in a title. Regardless, the only title that doesn't bother me much out of that list is Desolation of Smaug, just because I don't think I've ever seen the word Desolation in a title before, so, it's got points for standing out. I always found the actual name of the battle "Battle of the Five Armies" to be distinctly cheesy, even if it's in Tolkien's work. Anything other than that, please.
