based on the fact that he looks like he's covered in soot from a fire.. also, they are gripping him in a way that I don't think looks much like a spider. my first thought was "spiders", though... until I noticed the soot.

I'm really happy they made it into the film, but i always imagined that PJ could just show us their shadows or blurry without details, left in the twilight.

The scale of the Eagle should be larger if you recall Gandalf atop Orthanc and the rescue of Frodo and Sam. I think the CGI will take care of the scale issue.

This is some epic stuff here. Dale, Heirs of Durin, dwarves in full armor, stone giants...My goodness. Best vlog yet. One thing: I don't think the dwarf army is from Azanulbizar. Rather, I think these scenes come from a flashback showing the defense of the Lonely Mountain from Smaug's first attack... This is largely because the setting seems to be a very built, dwarven environment, and we even get a quick shot of a dwarf on a throne (likely Thror) as well as an advisor of sorts. Outside the gates of Moria would, I think, look very different. Thoughts?

But does anyone else think it's Radagast that says, "Why? Where are you going?" A lot of people at Comic Con speculated that it was Bilbo, but Gandalf wasn't around the company when they were in Mirkwood, and Gandalf seems to have just survived a battle (Thrain?). I'm thinking this is after Gandalf's initial visit to Dol Guldur.

Looks a lot like the dwarf we see running next to Thorin, which is most likely Dain.

In the one interview with just SPJ& Her.. the microphone barely picks up... "When Gandalf tells the tale of Smaug?" So it seems that somewhere along the journey (Hopefully around a campfire) Cinematicly. OUT OF A SMOKE-RING.. RISES the quick points of the distuction&banishment... in a smoke ring 3D..cgi that doesn't give away his Solid presense in Film 2. Thorin stands up and Blows this illusion into the air...A real rallying cry to stoke their Quest.. Remember this a 3D movie and any thing is possible with SPJ in charge Bomby

Why is it always Philippa and never Fran? I remember being confused during Lord of the Rings about who was married to whom. If married anyone was, because they always said "partner" - not "husband" or "wife." So I ended up thinking "What a strange arrangement."
