Yeah i was just throwing the options out there, lol [In reply to] Can't Post

i think although nice to see Dale after the attack and everything, it would be a waste to go to so much effort.

To me i think its pre-Smaug like everyone else is assuming, when everything was great in Dale. If that is the case must be weird watching something you have spent so much time designing and building to get burnt a few weeks later!

Dwarves [In reply to] Can't Post

Definitely dwarves at 4:38. Because of the shields, helmets, hair and way of running. Smile

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle.

The stone giants [In reply to] Can't Post

It's just one of those little details from the book that I'm really excited to see. I never, ever thought they'd make it into PJ's films, so I'm awfully happy about it.

I've never imagined what they'd look like, so I'm happy with PJ's interpretation. Plus, I expect them to be on screen for no more than five minutes, and probably less than that.

I find this funny! [In reply to] Can't Post

"Oh no! PJ actually did follow the book on something! Blasphemy! How could he do such a thing?!"

He's adapting the book, why do you act surprised that he actually included something THAT IS IN THE BOOK?!

Geez, some people will never be satisfied :P

I'm actually still kind of confused [In reply to] Can't Post

only because I can't imagine building that large of a set for only one scene of destruction. Minas Tirith and Helm's Deep were both large sets, but they were heavily featured in the films. Unless there's been a lot of story expansion, Dale won't be like either of those.

Completely agree [In reply to] Can't Post

I just don't understand why people are acting like PJ has gone crazy and over the top. Um, the stone giants are in the book, so if anything, it was Tolkien who went crazy.

However, I'm very happy to see the giants, and I even like the way that they look. Blush

Deus ex machinima [In reply to] Can't Post

The problem with introducing such insanely huge, powerful creatures are that the audience will (correctly) be confused and asking:

So why aren´t these behemoths anywhere to be seen in LOTR? Why doesn´t Sauron or the good guys try to use some of them?

Whenever Tolkien introduced overpowered characters (Army of the Dead, Bombadill, Eagles, Ents, Stone Giants), he created lots of problems for the logic and plot.

Talk about blowing something out of proportion. I am thrilled with nearly everything I've seen so far. I mentioned that I never liked the stone giants (even in the book) and all of a sudden I'm crying blasphemy? did you also read the part where I mentioned that I'm glad he's following the book so closely? calm down here... I'm perfectly satisfied.

I´m blasphemous [In reply to] Can't Post

I prefer if he only follows the book when it makes for a better movie. Stone Giants are juvenilia; fine in Neverending Story or Dark Crystal, but not in a "serious" fantasy movie.

Some screencaps and observations [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm sure someone will put a more comprehensive thread together with screen caps but since I am bored and have watched the video several times here are some things I picked up on or found interesting (awesome) for the hell of it

Stone Giants! I brightened up this cap in photoshop a bit and upped the contrast to get a better idea of the giant's sillouhette. It looks amazing.

Beorn's House - this looks perfect to me almost exactly what I've always imagined.

Galadriel - I know we've already seen her but I couldn't help but do a screen cap. She looks beautiful.

Dale - looks classical Italian but the half timber looking elements and heraldry hanging on the walls reminded me of England. There are also shots that appear more Morrocan as is said in the video. Impressive set.

POSSIBLE MEGASPOILER [In reply to] Can't Post

At 2:33 we casn see gandalf and Oin actors hugging, at the back of the shoot we can se what could very well be Thorin´s grave, also Oin is wearinf some kind of armour wich for me, would place it in film two. At least they are shooting some stuff about Oin´s fate in Moria (joking, but not so) but if you look on left a staff grows up between the group, two options maybe:
this is not Gandalf´s hobbit staff we have seen, wo at least it changes during film two could it be Radagst´s?

Radagast at Erebor?

In that case maybe Sylvester just shooted a scene that day and was arounTongue

Fantastic work, but the images are very oversized. [In reply to] Can't Post

Feel free to repost them within this thread once you've resized them as per our guidelines below:

The maximum size of any picture posted should be 525 wide x 400 pixels high (or a better measure is: 210,000 pixels squared - width x height), but no wider than 670 pixels. The maximum file size per picture should be 50k. The cumulative file size of all pictures in one post should not exceed 250k (5 pictures of the maximum filesize of 50k, 10 pictures of a filesize of 25k, etc.). These guidelnes apply to pictures hosted on other sites as well as to pictures posted as attachments to your post.

The Hobbit book is juvenile and serious [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't see why you can't have some of both, especially since that's how the book is actually written.

The Hobbit was written as a children's book, and I'm glad some of its whimsy is being translated to film.

good catch! [In reply to] Can't Post

This could very well be "that" scene... but that's VERY speculative at this point. He's definitely wearing armor... that's a sarcophagus-looking thing in the background. Giant candelabra.

I think that's Gandalf's staff, though. I'm wondering if the staff is somewhat like a flower. In the beginning it's in a "bud" state, but as the film progresses, it "blooms" into what we recognize as Gandalf's staff from LOTR. The staff in the scene above, looks very similar to Gandalf's from LOTR...
