Urban up for Bones Role in Star Trek

Ataahua sends this along: Kiwi actor Karl Urban is reportedly in talks to play Dr Leonard 'Bones' McCoy in Lost creator JJ Abrams' new Star Trek movie. Website The Trek Movie Report says that the Lord of the Rings star is in negotiations to play the starship Enterprise's chief medical officer, a role which one of the film's co-writers, Roberto Orci, has confirmed is a substantial part. But according to a source, Urban's involvement with the film is not yet certain, due to a possible scheduleling conflict. Urban is currently busy filming the movie Black Water Transit, as well as being attached to another movie presently pre-production.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. Karl Urban looks nothing, and I mean nothing, like a young De Forest Kelly. Or sounds anything like him. De Forest Kelly was always skinny, and Urban isn't. I guess they both have blue eyes, and that's it. Likewise, Simon Pegg looks nothing like a young James Doohan. This is odd casting as Zachary Quinto looks quite a bit like Leonard Nimoy. It would be neat for Urban to be involved, of course, but he would have been better cast as Scotty than Dr. McCoy!

...he could use a part in a good movie! I'm not sure about him playing Dr. McCoy, though.

Does not compute, but then again, if he could go from Cupid to Rohan's King, who knows what other transformations he could pull off.. D.F. Kelley was always cast as a bad guy/heavy before Roddenberry made him a " country doctor" in space. So maybe tough guy Karl Urban can make the change, too. I can see it now "Humanoids of the Federation! Medicine you must take, now, swallow it all, for Captain and Enterprise! Hyah!!!"

I can't see it, no matter how hard I try to imagine him in the role. Bad choice for Bones.

But then, I think the whole Star Trek franchise is well past its expiration date anyway. It's time to give it a rest and come up with some original ideas.

My eyes saw K. . . Urban and my mind just naturally filled in Keith. Try imagining Keith Urban as Bones. Riiiiight. Think I'll stick to imagining Keith Urban as Keith Urban instead. Does it feel hot in here to you, or is it just me?

hit man... uh... not a Milk Man.... I think he'd be great :D I'm not very happy with JJ Abrams lately *shakes fist for abandoning LOST*, but I'll give anything Star Trek a chance! I think Karl would be a fantastic Bones!

That was the name of an article on CHUD.com, who say that Karl is pretty much been officially cast to play McCoy.

Hello: I am a huge Karl Urban fan, I will see ANY movie that he is in no matter what role he plays. But I do believe that Karl is a good actor, and I do believe that he WILL be able to do a convincing Dr. McCoy. I welcome him to the Star Trek family. May be I will get to see him at a con one day, sigh .... I just hope that he will not be cursed with being in Star Trek that he would never get any other role like DeForrest Kelly. Live long and prosper, Bones! He is NOT dead, Jim! ;-) Barahli of Rohan Westu Eomer hal!
