Yeah i would be happy with that [In reply to] Can't Post

I do wonder what it will be like when the hobbit movies plus extended dvds are done with. There will probably be no more tolkien being adapted, unless they get the rights to CoH or The Sil (which i hope they dont). will be strange!

Still these movies arent even out yet so, lots and lots to look forward to and over analyse. Tongue

Yep, read it multiple times [In reply to] Can't Post

In fact, I began re-reading it on June 27, 2012 for the first time since the production on the films started (I arrived at Lake Town early this morning, at 7:30 AM to be precise Wink), and I've been thinking to myself that having 13 distinct and recognizable Dwarf-faces in my head has really made the book come alive in a way I previously did not experience.

My hope [In reply to] Can't Post

1. A TV series based on some of the more cinematic stories in the Silmarillion
2. A film of Children of Hurin (an excellent story)
3. In 20-30 years, remakes of both LOTR and the Hobbit by a very different director, in either a film or TV series fashion

I truly hope that the only live action filmic interpretation of Tolkien in my lifetime is not Peter Jackson's. Would be sorely disappointing.

Though he did say last year he was tempted to take on The Silmarillion... [In reply to] Can't Post

But one thing at a time for me... I'm just super glad we're even getting The Hobbit.

Perhaps 10 years from now I'll start crossing my fingers, toes, and what have you for The Silmarillion Sly

Like... umm... nothing [In reply to] Can't Post

I've got a "face memory" like you wouldn't imagine. I can remember faces I've seen from years ago, if even in passing, but when it comes to reading books, I can almost never imagine faces on people.

I did imagine Thorin as vaguely old though (and definitely older than Richard Armitage), and Fili and Kili as vaguely youthful (pretty much like Dean O'Gorman and Aidan Turner), and Bombur as a fat fellow, but the rest of the Dwarves, I'm afraid they were just a generic crowd in my head.

Sorry for the disappointing answer Smile

I know you're asking Earl, but I'll answer as well... [In reply to] Can't Post

Wink I imagined 13 Gimli's (traditional looking dwarves).

With all their different coloured beards and hoods, I always found it fairly easy to differentiate one another (in my head anyway) Laugh

I agree on the formats [In reply to] Can't Post

The silmarillion couldnt be made into a movie i think. Though as has been discussed here many times i do think it would probably work as a tv series, though i love the silmarillion so much i dont know whether i would want that or not.

The CoH is much more cinematic and would be able to be adapted to film i believe. Again i dont know if i would want that i like having them remain in my mind at least for now. I think what i want is in 10-20 years or so for someone to adapt it - dont want them to adapt everything too quickly otherwise there will be nothing left.

I like you would like them to remake the LOTR movies at some point, im not sure when this will happen but i am hopeful sometime in the next 75 years before i die (plan on going around 100, lol). Not because i didnt like the films, i do like them but i would like to see a different director try and adapt the books again, perhaps in a way that game of thrones has been, at least a little bit less melodramatic (gonna get flamed for this, haha)

I'll have to go over the production videos this weekend... [In reply to] Can't Post

... and I'll also revisit the interviews PJ did from last year (there aren't that many so that should be helpful!)

I should have an answer after that, if someone on here doesn't already have it by then Tongue

Thanks Earl [In reply to] Can't Post

Would be interesting to find out his (PJ's) views on a Silmarillion adaptation.

I don't think it can be done any justice yet. I don't want it made for the fun of it. I have more attachment to the Silmarillion, than LOTR and TH put together.

I will answer my own question as well, haha [In reply to] Can't Post

I to have a hard time imagining faces. I can imagine the face if they are doing something in the book, meaning in my mind they are moving and i almost catch a glimpse of what i think their faces are like, but if i just try to imagine the faces i cant do it - have to be doing something. Hope that doesnt sound like im crazy.

I definitely didnt imagine an axe in a face or super spiky hair or tattoos so something similar to DanielLB. Thorin was older and kili was not like he is in the film both which i think my versions are better, haha.

One could say the dwarves seen in the LOTR movies were gimli clones but personally i think they are all easily identifiable and all definitely dwarf like and i love that design they had. I think they match what i think of when i imagine a dwarf, so not exactly gimli clones just traditional tolkien dwarves with individual faces which i can only see when they move Unsure

It always changes though [In reply to] Can't Post

Whenever I re-read TH (or even LOTR or the Silmarillion) I always see the characters differently (form a different image in my head). They're are very few that ever remain the same.

When I read TH the dwarves, I don't really come up with different faces. The beards and hoods help separate 13 Gimli's in my mind Wink

Remake? [In reply to] Can't Post

That's a really silly expectation. The Hobbit hasn't even come out yet,and you are already expecting a remake? Look at the Godfather for example. It's been out here for 40 years and there should never be a remake of it,because it wouldn't be a fraction as good as the current one is.Same as this. One thing I put faith in is that LOTR or the Hobbit should never be remade.Because It's one director's dream, one crew's work.It would be extremely disrespectful to try to remake it.Anything Middle-Earth related should be directed by PJ,because he knows best. Also In my wildest dreams,I can't imagine a remake of LOTR that would top it.

Melodramatic is the best way to describe the films, IMO (along with "overwrought"). For me, it is their major flaw - much worse than the oft-mentioned controversial changes, like Faramir's Osgiliation, etc.

Anyway, I do believe they will be adapted again in my lifetime. There is simply too much money to be made there...
