1. The barrel scene has gotten a descent amount of air time in this video, as well as past ones. This seems to confirm that it will be in the first movie. 2. The barrels in said scene will be topless for at least part of the journey. This isn't to say that they didn't have tops at one point, they may have been knocked off. 3. As I speculated in a thread a while ago, Gloin's weapons are the same as Gimli's from the trilogy. 4. There are trees on fire, most likely the ones that the company is rescued from. 5. Alan Lee is shown in the makeup chair with a wig on. Most likely another cameo. Citizen of Laketown perhaps? 6. A short of Alan Lee with the infamous "bunny-sled" aka Radagast's hare-powered mode of transport. 7. John Howe sitting on a giant wooden chair in an unknown location. I would hazard a guess and say that it is from Beorn's house. 8. Luke Evans and Billy Connolly make their first appearances in the blog. 9. We are taken to "a scene in the troll cave". If you look carefully, a guy walks by with what appears to be Orcrist and Glamdring. This leads me to believe that Glamdring's origin will be from the troll-hoard, as it is in the book. (Some people had speculated that Gandalf would always have his sword in the films.) 10. An interesting shot inside of Weta Workshop of someone riding on top of some hairy, white thing. I have no idea what this is. 11. A great twist at the end. I won't blow it for you if you haven't seen it yet, but I will say that an old friend makes an appearance.

that's what came to mind first when I saw the guy riding that thing. For the "out of the frying pan into the fire" scene. Yes, lots of barrel riding. The barrel cart was funny. And the camera work for the vlog was rather....um....graceful ;)

The doubles look amazing! Exactly like the originals, not as rubber-masky as the ones in LotR. And that wolf? Richard is riding at around 11:30 even moves like a real animal and not like a barrel!

Thanks for the heads-up, maut. I do love the way the vlogs show a bit of everyone involved in the production - it's not just a PJ show. And the bit at the end was classic.

I kept trying to pause on those two swords and the bit where you see a couple of the dwarves looking through the troll hoard. Dang it. Now I just went up a few ticks on the Can't Wait-O-Meter!

The color of the thing Richard is riding seems identical to one of the dwarf ponies we've seen in the other vlogs. This was a hilarious video. I love these things. For some reason, I have always been fascinated by the troll cave, and I was delighted to see it here. Looked great.

Number 2 confirms what I said a while back. Other observations (will have to wait for screencaps for closer looks) - Some of the orc costumes were very similar to the warg riders from LOTR - Silvester (Radagast) was having his wig put on (looked grey to me?) - Lightning as the company try and find a place to rest - A very wet Bilbo and Bofur

to come it over and give us a ton of still photos and evaluations. From the vlog I know several things for certain already. . . The scene from the trailer is of Gandalf at the Trollshaws (the staff strike heralding sunrise). The Wargs/Orcs burning trees is in! Even if we don't know exactly how it will be handled. Pretty sure the back of a new warg design was in there somewhere?? Somebody has an EPIC war hammer!
"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!" "Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."

LMAO LOLOLOLOL!!! Hilarious. I hope they WON'T be basing Smaug's face on Falkor's. That said, it certainly would not hurt if they made the wargs look more like Gmork. Great movie. In what appears to be Goblin-town, you can see what seems to be a horse/pony on a spit! A gruesome death ahead for the beasts of burden?
