What do you think of the fan-film Born of Hope? Can't Post

I finally got around to watching this today and was pleasantly surprised. I liked it quite a bit, especially because it actually fits quite well with Peter's LOTR films. So what about you? What did you think of it?

It's there now! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've edited that selection in - and been the first to click on it. Sadly, I have not yet seen "Born of Hope", but I would like to at some future time!

I dare to admit I dislike it [In reply to] Can't Post

The good production and the good actors are sadly wasted by the B-level character writing. I've read enough LotR fanfiction to regocnize (and suffer of) each and every stupid cliché. It's not extactly awful, but I can't enjoy of it either.

Other than that, it was good. But personally I like the Hunt for Gollum more.

*throws tomatoes* [In reply to] Can't Post

Just kidding, of course! Tongue

See, I watched the Hunt for Gollum too, and found it almost unbearable. Then I watched Born of Hope and found it rather good. Not perfect by any means, but good nonetheless.

Always good to see differing opinions!

Hunt for Gollum [In reply to] Can't Post

Haven't seen Born of Hope, but I was not a fan of Hunt for Gollum. Maybe my expectations were too high, as it was the first and only fan film I've ever seen.

I don't suppose that there's a link.

The Hunt for Gollum isn't [In reply to] Can't Post

a masterpiece of cinema, but it does some stuff well and nothing awfuly. At least there wasn't any annoying romantic plot tumor with Mary Sueish characters that render canon characters dislikeable. I hated what they did to Gilraen, whom I've always imagined as a very respectable, wise woman. And now she was made the "blond girl" that gets the hot guy from the "more deserving" tomboyish action girl.

That's just my personal opinion. Unsure

I found I was better able to enjoy BoH because... [In reply to] Can't Post

there were no characters in it to distract me because they didn't look like their LotR counterparts. This was not the case with HfG. Gandalf wasn't bad, but Arwen was a real distraction. Not a fair rational, I know, but there it is.

It was the same for me. [In reply to] Can't Post

Having completely different characters allowed me to focus of the characters instead of on the actors. I was actually able to think of these people as Aragorn's parents like I was supposed to.

I enjoyed it! [In reply to] Can't Post

Although it's not the greatest production and there are some amateurish aspects to it, I thought it was an enjoyable movie to watch. The fact that it's made by passionate fans who were doing it for the love of Tolkien was really inspiring.

I also enjoyed The Hunt for Gollum.

I guess I just really love seeing things produced by people who are passionate about what they love.
