Founder's Day - Of Times and Fellowship
|
Can't Post

Thirteen years is quite a time when you really start to think about it. It’s the length of a childhood, to put it simply (and I think we can all agree that here on TORn a part of our inner child thrives, if only a part). What can be said of TheOneRing.net? Active news, in-depth discussion – it’s all here. But I think what keeps making us come back is the fellowship that has been established here over all these years. Even those who have only joined in the last while, heck, the last day, can surely appreciate what bond is to be found in this place. This is no place of harsh, opinionated debates that you might find on regular forums, but perhaps that’s why I don’t even recognize TORn as a forum. On TORn we can find welcoming conversations, shared perspectives, reasoned alignments, and goodwill attitude in which we can all consider each other friends and family. Above it all, we are left to thank four people who are a direct result of having made this virtual paradise as we know it today – Xoanon, Tehanu, Calisuri and Corvar. Without their goal to share Tolkien news and the efforts of Peter Jackson’s production, we might not be where and who we are today. For that, I ask you to take time to acknowledge the strength of their fellowship, and what effect it has played in the paths of ours. Your fondest memories and greatest laughs are most welcome. ----- and if you’re in need of a bit of inspiration, here’s a little blast from the past of last year’s Founder’s Day extravaganza: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy2J_Jpr0nE Happy Founder’s Day!
FOTR 10th Anniversary Music Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33xJU3AIwsg "You do not let your eyes see nor your ears hear, and that which is outside your daily life is not of account to you. Ah, it is the fault of our science that it wants to explain all; and if it explain not, then it says there is nothing to explain."

I'm late to the party, as usual - tsk tsk. Must've been around on and off for pretty much ten years now; wish I could remember when I actually joined TORn, but I can't! Happy days, anyway; to share these boards, which give enduring pleasure to so many, is a privilege. Cheers!

I wish I knew lots of folks round here in real life - but I glad I know them at all. Memories? The knitting comments in the Hobbit forum last year - also the long-running cheese sandwich joke of the year before. Or was it two years before...... Just being around here really and starting to recognise names.

You know, you just can't watch that video montage without smiling yourself silly by the end of it...what a great cast! I have some pretty fond memories of this place -- the first Founders Day especially...we had the day all carefully planned out to run a certain way and then the boards just exploded and things got out of control, but in a good way, and most importantly we floored the Founders. It was one of our best hours, I think. I have been away for a bit -- it's nice to be back! And how great to come back on a party-day organized by a great party-team. Thanks for the memories and thanks for the fun!

with all the smiling faces. Makes me grin. This is history. Thanks One Ringer for such a continuing delight. One note, both videos are cutting out and will not finish even after many 'reloads'
''Sam put his ragged orc-cloak under his master's head, and covered them both with the grey robe of Lorien; and as he did so his thoughts went out to that fair land, and to the Elves, and he hoped that the cloth woven by their hands might have some virtue to keep them hidden beyond all hope in this wilderness of fear...But their luck held, and for the rest of that day they met no living or moving thing; and when night fell they vanished into the darkess of Mordor.'' - - -rotk, chapter III Faerie contains many things besides elves and fays and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants or dragons; it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are one in it: tree and bird, water and stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted." — J.R.R. Tolkien May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings! In the air, among the clouds in the sky Here is where the birds of Manwe fly Looking at the land, and the water that flows The true beauty of earth shows With the stars of Varda lighting my way In all the realms this is where I stay In the realm of Manwë Súlimo "The original sin is to limit the Is. Don't" - Richard Bach

Thank you for that walk back down memory lane, One Ringer! And others are right, that's one video that you can't help but smile all through watching it. Thank you!

I can't believe it's been 3 years since I first started getting involved in the boards. Helping with the tenth anniversary was one of the first things I did as a newbie. There is no end to the amount I love this website, as I sit here wearing my TheOneRing.net shirt I remember all the great memories I've had on this site. Thank you to everyone who contributes to this amazing website, especially to the founders for whom this day was named! Happy Founder's Day!!

When I found TORn 10 years ago, I had just joined my first on-line site for the "official" Lord of the Rings movie fanclub December 25, 2001. Within a couple of weeks there, one of the links in a poster's message led me here... and I've stayed here ever since. I didn't know there were so many people who loved Tolkien's Lord of the Rings as much as... if not MORE than... I did!! The acceptance, humour, and intelligence of everyone was so incredible! If Tehanu, Corvar, Calisuri and Xoanon had just bantered between themselves at whatever sites they were already a part of and hadn't followed their creative and curious spirits to create TORn, I would have never found a place and a collection of people who inspired me to reach out... to start writing again, and sketching, and to dare to travel and attend conventions and moot with the most amazing people I've ever met. And most of all... to find people who accept me as I am. TORn has sincerely changed my life. Made it richer and empowered me more than I ever thought possible. All my life as I went through many lonely, challenging years, I always felt like something incredible was going to happen... like a miracle or high-point that would eclipse anything that had ever happened. And it has happened because of TORn. For a long time I thought it was being a member of this wonderful community and the travelling I have done... attending the Oscars, ORC, LotR Exhibition of props and artwork... but it was going to Wellington NZ that has filled me to overflowing with joy... all thanks to our Founders and thanks to TORn. Thanks to one and all :)
I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world. TORn's Observations Lists Unused Scenes
