"Getting to know" questions request thread

Welcome to this months “Getting to know…” question request thread. Each month I’ll be posting this thread asking for you to submit questions to that months Interviewee, these will be chosen from amongst the various staff members who keep this place going, a fan who’s been randomly selected (and actually agreed to talk to me :D ) or a VIP. Please keep the questions to fun or interesting things you’d like to know, without being too invasive. The questions do not have to be restricted to Tolkien, in fact others are actively encouraged. At the end of a week, we’ll be collating the questions and presenting the most interesting/fun ones to that months recipient. This month we’ll be asking questions of Kristin Thompson, author of "The Frodo Franchise" :) (And a little heads up, she's just got back from Egypt ) Cheers! Kel x

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. There's a lot of research behind getting "The Frodo Franchise" written. What was the most difficult piece of information to find, or person to access?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I desired dragons with a profound desire" "It struck me last night that you might write a fearfully good romantic drama, with as much of the 'supernatural' as you cared to introduce. Have you ever thought of it?" -Geoffrey B. Smith, letter to JRR Tolkien, 1915
The question that pops into the mind is, is there anyone from your travels there in Egypt heard of Tolkien or the lotr's?
''Sam put his ragged orc-cloak under his master's head, and covered them both with the grey robe of Lorien; and as he did so his thoughts went out to that fair land, and to the Elves, and he hoped that the cloth woven by their hands might have some virtue to keep them hidden beyond all hope in this wilderness of fear...But their luck held, and for the rest of that day they met no living or moving thing; and when night fell they vanished into the darkess of Mordor.'' - - -rotk, chapter III Faerie contains many things besides elves and fays and besides dwarfs, witches, trolls, giants or dragons; it holds the seas, the sun, the moon, the sky; and the earth, and all things that are one in it: tree and bird, water and stone, wine and bread, and ourselves, mortal men, when we are enchanted." — J.R.R. Tolkien May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings! In the air, among the clouds in the sky Here is where the birds of Manwe fly Looking at the land, and the water that flows The true beauty of earth shows With the stars of Varda lighting my way In all the realms this is where I stay In the realm of Manwë Súlimo "The original sin is to limit the Is. Don't" - Richard Bach
You are having a dinner party with Tolkien as the only guest. What (and why) would you serve him for starters, main and desert? And what drink would you serve?
This is great, Kel! I'd like to ask my old standby... "What was your favourite cartoon to watch when you were a youngster?" Thanks Kel!
I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world. TORn's Observations Lists Unused Scenes
What project in Egypt do you work on? I was always interested in that and have read quite a lot of books about excavations in that area, so I would love some details. How did you come to work on that sort of project? It may have come up here, but as I am not here much lately: You once mentioned that you hoped to write another book about the making of the Hobbit. Is there any hope for it? If you are allowed to talk about it, that is. Don't want to jeopardise anything
Yup, this time I have more. What triggered you into starting the Frodo Franchise? What is the most interesting find you discovered from working on it? And in regards to Egypt. I was absolutely amazed and had a hard time getting my head around the fact that I was actually walking in buildings that are over 3.500 years old. How did you see/feel that?
