Titanic 3D and Hobbit trailer Can't Post

Just watched Titanic 3D yesterday, and it's really an amazing conversion considering it has not been shot in 3D.Altough,I think I saw it way to many times to be blown away by the movie itself now.To be honest I expected to cry at those obvious scenes, where Rose tells Jack to wake up,or at Nearer my God to thee playing. But I didn't feel almost anything. Not to dish on Titanic. It's really an amazing movie, that will always stay as one of my favorites.I only think that i saw it too many times by now.Btw,I also saw the Hobbit trailer right before Titanic. Not sure if it was me,but only the subtitles in croatian were actually in 3D.Everything else was quite flat to be honest. Is that how those scenes will look like in the movie?

I've never seen Titanic in full, [In reply to] Can't Post

I've seen bits of it, and the ending a couple times (which seems to always happen when I find it on TV), so I wouldn't mind checking it out this time around. And knowing that The Hobbit trailer (which didn't come across as being flat when I saw it with Tintin in 3D) is always a nice perk.

I'm one of those folks who really loathed Titanic, but... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd be interested to see this because I want some idea of how good post conversion 3D can look, since there is talk of converting LotR to 3D. I know any project Cameron is associated with will be the epitome of that process, so I am curious enough to watch it.

Perhaps (I hope) the best bits of the 3D Hobbit just aren't shown on the trailer. Thanks for your views on it, from one who is interested in the 3D aspect.

Oh don't get me wrong [In reply to] Can't Post

Titanic really looks amazing in 3D.The depth of it is so amazing and the clarity is truly breathtaking. The best 3D parts start from the Southampton scene in my opinion.I guess I really watched Titanic too many times,to be touched with emotions now. It's weird though.I wanted to cry,I just couldn't...Unsure This may sound really silly, but how do you really get so emotional to make yourself cry, maybe it just happens naturally, you don't expect it?

I dunno about not getting emotional... [In reply to] Can't Post

11 years later and I still get VERY emotional about parts of The Fellowship of the Ring (The Shire, Moria, the death of Boromir especially).
In my opinion, you get really emotional because the writer/filmmaker has successfully described something that you relate to your own experience so you're experiencing the movie AND something that really happened to you or someone you love (hence yet another connexion) in stirring the emotion(s). I can tell you exactly why Boromir's death hurts me to crying every single time - I'm a life-long soldier and I understand EXACTLY what his life was like and so his death means much more to me than it does to many.

For me [In reply to] Can't Post

it's that the filmmakers have described something so well that I can relate to it emotionally even though I have never and maybe will never experience situations like those in the movie.

I cried when I first saw Titanic (I would have been about 10 years old?) but every time I've seen it afterwards, I actually found it amusing - not the people dying, but just at the cheesiness of the plot.

I've seen LotR countless times and there are certain parts that always make me cry, from happiness and sadness.

it's a good movie if you skip the middle hour [In reply to] Can't Post

all that running around below decks, what was the point? It didn't increase the suspense or move the story forward in any way. But I'm surprised at you Patty, because it's a disaster movie! If not a natural one. Unless you count the iceberg.

well, it is a disaster movie if - like you say - you skip the middle part [In reply to] Can't Post

And some of that 'middle' stuff is pretty trifling. I read a review recently that said (or quoted Cameron as saying?) that it's not a 'disaster' movie or a movie about the titanic. It's a love story set on the titanic.

My memory of watching it during first release was I wasn't that enchanted with it but the whole experience lingered with me (after watching) for a long time in terms of what people went through. But 'what people went through' is subverted by all the over the top drama with the Billy Zane character chasing Rose and Jack. It's as if the story of all those people on the boat - whether they survived or not - wasn't dramatic enough. They had to add a crazy person with a gun to ramp up the drama. Or - even if we just focus on one couple, Rose and Jack, it's as if the sinking of the ship and how that impacts them isn't enough.. they need a crazy person with a gun chasing them through the sinking ship.

I have defended Cameron against some harsh detractors on this board but, I will admit, when he goes astray.. he goes big.

2 reasons I disliked the movie... [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Di Caprio's role. I don't care for him (although I found him to be excellent in Gilbert Grape). And, even though I always agree with their cause, I find whinning "would -be revolutionaries" boring. I haven't seen this in many a year, but wasn't he the poor lad looking to over-throw the wealthy classes? Kind of like I find DA's Branson boring, although I agree with his cause.

2. I really don't like whinny teenagers unhappy with their lot. Kate Winslet's role. I know it's just the hormones raging, but I find it a bore. Definitely a personal foible, YMMV.

The disaster flicks I like are the impending doom for the planet based on something that will probably happen at some point. The iceberg was a the catalyst for the Titanic disaster, but of course as you know it was just the final inevitability that happened because so many other things were wrong, but only for that one ship that night. I prefer almost any other Titanic story to this one (except, perhaps the one with Catherine Zeta Jones). I think the Clifton Webb is my favorite, followed by A Night to Remember--the most accurate.

My problem with the Cameron movie... [In reply to] Can't Post

isn't its inaccuracies...or at least, I don't think it was,and I don't remember if it even was inaccurate because it's been years since I saw it. I only can go by what the film historians or other sources say about that. They all say A Night to Remember is the most accurate so far. My problem was the storyline with the two main characters, Kate and DiCaprio. I didn't like them, so it made the movie tedious for me to watch.

I'm a fan of titanic but not for because i think the movie is good [In reply to] Can't Post

I think the movie is ok but i was only young when i first saw it (10) and i think its one of the very first times i had a crush on someone (kate winslet along with katie hill from blue peter if anyone can remember, haha). I can remember being very embarrassed by one scene in titanic as i was with my parents watching the film and i went all red and they teased me Blush

I think I agree with you, to some extent... [In reply to] Can't Post

Inaccuracies don't really bother me in movies. I'm studying music in college right now, and one of my all-time favorite movies is Amadeus, which just gets everything grossly wrong, but I still love the movie.

Mostly the reason I'm not crazy about Titanic is that I have trouble sitting through two hours of people slowly dying, which is all it feels like to me. I'm just not a big fan of disaster movies in general-- it's not really a moral thing or anything like that, but it's just not something I enjoy watching.

The two main characters [In reply to] Can't Post

never existed on the Titanic. So the entire story is based on an inaccuracy - Cameron used the disaster of the Titanic as a framing for a love story. So while the disaster as shown in the movie might be largely accurate, the story overall is largely inaccurate.

I watched Titanic once and liked it, but never found the stamina to watch it again. I never warmed to the main characters, although I usually like Kate Winslet's roles.

have you seen "Titanic: The Final Word with James Cameron"? [In reply to] Can't Post

It's been airing on TV recently. Cameron dives to the wreck and then gets together with a bunch of experts to figure out what really happened and where his movie is inaccurate. They redid the graphic simulation as a result but he said "I'm not going to reshoot the movie." The stern never went straight up like he showed, and it went down a lot faster.

Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, reshooting the movies would be pointless, both financially and logic wise. The movies wouldn't be half as good if it would show how it really happened.Thats' the point of it.It's not the point of making it better, the movie exists and it should stay exactly as it is.
