don't want to dash your hope but [In reply to] Can't Post

It is also possible all that information will only appear on something like the prop certificate. Just an extra bit of depth, which costs nothing!

Hoping I am wrong, of course.

I'm not sure [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm not aware of anything along those lines that Tolkien said - but then again, I haven't read everything and can't remmber everything.

Either way, it doesn't really matter - simply because the films are adaptaitons of the book. Jackson and his team can do what they like, it is only based on the book, so yes, they can fill in the gaps.

A Gondolin flashback would be amazing - but highly unlikely (I can live in hope!) I imagine that Elrond in Rivendell reveals the history of the swords to the company. I would then expect Bilbo (or one of the Dwarves) to ask more about Gondolin (what happened to it etc) and we get a nice little backstory. Elrond might likely speak of Tuor (his grandfather). That way, they might be able to link a thread with the Fall of Gondolin with Sauron, via Morgoth, Balrogs, dragons and the need to defeat evil? That way, talking about Gondolin wouldn't be totally irrelevant to the plot. Smile
