RADAGAST THE BROWN, yet another California-related parody (can you guess where I'm going with this?) Can't Post

I'll bet you'll know the tune this parody is based on. Hint: although California-related, unlike my previous two parodies, The One Ring (California Girls)
http://newboards.theonering.net/...?post=428064;#428064
and Watcher in the Water (Rock Lobster)
http://newboards.theonering.net/...?post=429661;#429661,
the basis for this one is not a "beach-party / surfer" type of song.

RADAGAST THE BROWN

(to the tune of ... check out the links at bottom for the answer)

Radagast the Brown
(Radagast the Brow-w-wn!)

found Gandalf the Grey
(found Gandalf the Gre-ey!)

He’d left home to talk
(he’d left home to ta-alk!)

couldn’t let delay
(couldn’t let dela-a-ay!)

He’d come straight to warn
(He’d come straight to warn)

of the Nazgûl this way
(of the Nazgûl this wa-a-ay!)

Call upon our Chieftain,
(Call upon our Chieftain!)

‘Cuz Saruman awaits! (awa-a-a-aits!)

Rode under the arch

And passed through Orthanc’s gate

Well, he drove me to my knees
(Drove me to my knee-ees!)

I was condemned to stay
(Was condemned to stay!)

I knew the traitor for his colors
(Traitor for his colors)

The White had gone astray.
(White had gone astray-ay!)

Trapped above the ceiling
(Trapped above the ceiling)

To keep me locked away (aw-a-a-ay!)

(WIND INSTRUMENTAL)

Radagast the Brown,
(Radagast the Brow-w-wn!)

realized the Grey,
(realized the Gre-y-y-y)

He’s the one who’d called
(He’s the one who’d ca-a-alled)

Eagles’ help that day
(Eagles’ help that da-a-a-ay)

If he hadn’t told them
(If he hadn’t told them)

I’d be there today
(I’d be there today)

Gwaihir came a-winging
(Gwaihir came a-winging)

and lifted me away!
(Gwaihir came a-winging)

and lifted me away!
(Gwaihir came a-winging)

and lifted me away!
(awaa-a-a-ay!)

"Radgast the Brown"Sly I'm wondering, did the words remind you of the music, or did the music make you think of how Radagast would fit right in? I'm never sure which way it is for me, although I think it's more often the words that bring the tune to mind, at least initially.

This is a blast! I hope you had a lot of fun.SmileSmileSmile

Yep, I didn't need to go to the link for the original, either - what other song has "Brown" and "Grey" in the first two lines! Laugh

Thank you for figuring out another fun one, Ruxendil! Smile

And yes I had fun. It was a bit difficult bc so few syllables to play with per meter, and I had to revise it a few times (especially the second "California dreamin' / on such a winter's day"), but I enjoy that kind of thing.

That's a good question, Ethel. In this case, the song came to mind first, because my mind was on the California theme. The song came go mind, and eventually I realized how Raddy fit in. It was a eureka moment, although my first thought was to simply write about each of the Istari one by one.

Sometimes its the Middle Earth stuff that I'm thinking of, and the eureka hits me when I realize how it fits a song. "Hey now, you're Elessar, get your crown on, go reign..." is an example of that. Same with "She's declining her place at the havens...."

with "Carry On Wayward Son" the song came first, but during a time when in the back of my head I was trying to think of something for "Seek for the Sword that was broken". The song came on the radio one time but the eureka didn't occur until much later as I was doing something mundane, like changing clothes after work. Same with Spiderwebs/Sting

With House of the Rising Sun it was a mix. First i considered that song at Quacking Troll's suggestion but i didn't connect it with anything at the time. Months later I was looking for a song to go with "Where now the horse and the rider" and it was like there was a matchmaker in my brain saying: "Horse and rider, I have a House in New Orleans I'd like to show you."

If there were a way we could remotely perform (and record) together through videoconferencing, i would propose collaborating that way. I can sing ok, and i can harmonize, plus play guitar (and keyboards but i don't have one handy at the moment). And, I'm pretty sure I know the words. Smile

Thanks dernwyn, i'm glad you found it fun. I had figured you would get it easily.

and I was somewhat surprised not to have seen anyone do a parody of that song about Raddy and Gandy before, considering the Brown...Grey connection as you mentioned.

As an otaku... [In reply to] Can't Post

...you may want to check-out the Record of Lodoss War anime OVA series (and to a lesser degree the later television series). In many ways, it was everything that the animated DragonLance movie should have been.

I would also recommend several Hayao Miyazaki films: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind; Castle in the Sky, Laputa; Princess Mononoke. Miyazaki's son Goro directed Tales of Earthsea, which is flawed, but arguably worth a rental.

I was just sticking to the ones I feel are most similar to traditional fantasy films (although Laputa is more steam-punkish in its setting. Vernian?). But, yeah, I should have probably also included Howl's Movie Castle in my previous post!

I've seen Lodoss several times and i've seen Lodoss: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight sequel/reimagination series. I haven't seen Dragonlance.

I am a huge, die-hard Miyazaki freak! I've seen and adored em all and i own most of them on DVD. My faves are Princess Mononoke, Laputa, Nausicaa, and Spirited Away but the others come close, esp Howl's Moving Castle. i even enjoyed Goro's film debut. I love that a cappella song in the middle. I want to see the upcoming one, its not Miyazaki but it is Ghibli, based on the Borrowers. I've also enjoyed other Ghibli films, esp Whisper of the Heart and Graveyard of the Fireflies.

It's covered in Ghibli merchandise, including a huge Totoro poster over my bed (you can just make out the corner in my first video). The only dvd I don't have is Arrietty, because on blu-ray it's numbered 6 instead of 18 for some reason! Frown

Cool QT! So now along with OS we have ourselves a Tornsib-otaku community, or at least a Tornsib-Miyazaki-fan community.

I read that Quickbeam is another. That makes at least 4.

Arietty! That's what I was trying to remember, ty.

Twas a shame that the director of Whisper of the Heart passed on.

The ones i still need to get on DVD are Kiki, Totoro, and a few more non-Hayao ones. Of those, i have Whisper and Cat Returns.
