Dwarf at the end? [In reply to] Can't Post

Who is that? Thrain or Thror perhaps, or someone else entirely? Seems to have an odd helmet design in any case. The sides point upwards and the top parts are in green, so they'll be CGI.

Best. Birthday gift. Ever. [In reply to] Can't Post

RotK won Best Picture at the Oscars on my 13th birthday, which I still remember vividly all this time later . . . and now the first Hobbit vlog of 2012 is released on my 21st birthday. It's a good sign, I'm telling you!

I'll have to post serious comments later, I have to run off to my uni classes now . . . but how awesome was it to actually get some vid of Martin Freeman talking? Finally! And interesting that all the dwarves are visible in their barrels as they approach the shore, I wonder how that fits in with the story. Wonderful!

Little bit of info about the end of film one? [In reply to] Can't Post

PJ says almost immediately that Laketown doesn't feature until film two, so is it safe to assume film one ends somewhere around 'Barrels Out of Bond'?

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Stunning vistas in this one. [In reply to] Can't Post

I think this vlog should reassure anyone who was worried there wouldn't be enough real locations in the films.

Doesn't it look like the cast and crew are having a blast? :D

(LOVE the idea of Formal Fridays!)

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Yes, looks like a new Dwarf... [In reply to] Can't Post

As does the Dwarf who says "There's a chopper behind me, isn't there?" Perhaps one's Thror and the other Thrain (or perhaps another tertiary Dwarf such as Nain)?

Bit disappointing to be honest, that they skipped over location shooting without showing Beorn or Radagast...but overall, pretty fun installment. It's great to see the camaraderie between the cast, and especially Thorin & Co.

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, with axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

Beorn hasn't filmed yet [In reply to] Can't Post

... at least that's what I read in the newspaper some days ago in an interview with the actor. Soon though.

I LOVED it! I love the dwarves so much! And Bilbo and his "Pippin-ness" and Gandy! and everything! The landscape is soooo unnaturally amazing!

Oh boy, this videoblog is simply great. I'm so sorry last summer was so wet in NZ! :(

However, I really hope somebody can help with a transcript, as usual! Foreign fans (italians, here!) would love a subtitled version, and we are ready to make it!

many thanks Heart

I'm squealing so much I'm turning into a dolphin over here! [In reply to] Can't Post

How fantastic! (And of course, I watch it with moments to spare before class.)

As much as I comb over these videos for any hints of the cast and what's going in the movies, I really love seeing the crew working hard and having fun—that snowball fight was precious. And the fact that this cast clearly has a bond that's similar but different to the original cast is really heartening.

But back to the combing over for precious details!

I think we did see not only two, but three, new dwarves here—the dwarf at the end, the gentleman who mentions the chopper, and a dwarf at around 3:46 who is beardless and hanging out with Nori. I think it's a dwarf woman. Here's a terrible screengrab of it before class.

I'm liking a lot of the costuming details we're seeing close up now, especially the use of knits. The barrel scene looks fantastic.

BTW, notice the Smaug/dragon motif on the crew hoodies... [In reply to] Can't Post

Probably not indicative of the design whatsoever...but pretty cool!...As were the few glimpses on Laketown; it certainly appears to be very woody, wood-like, and to be made out of wood.
