(Or whatever Sam's word were.) I spent all day yesterday at an f/sf convention, but oh my, don't think I wasn't sending many thoughts to the west, to Colorado. I'll have you know I checked this thread this morning *before* my personal e-mail! Now I'm actually sniffling. What a gift, to be part of this community. One more reason to be grateful to the good professor, whose work has put into motion more positive things in this world than most people accomplish in a lifetime of good works. Thank you, Altaira! Thank you, conspiritors! *flying tackle hugs all around!*
* * * * * * * Do we walk in legends or on the green earth in the daylight? A man may do both. For not we but those who come after will make the legends of our time. The green earth, say you? That is a mighty matter of legend, though you tread it under the light of day!"

I wonder how people (in the pictures) feel about being identified. I think I've sorted most of the people out but there's a few stragglers in there I haven't. I totally understand if there is some hesitancy about this.

Congratulations Altaira!!!! What a wonderful group of friends you have! I still remember the lovely lunch we had with Aunt Dora many years ago. But I know how hard these guys all worked and I held Auntie's hand (by email at least) while she agonized over the "conspiracy" including the sleepless nights of secret-keeping, LOL. But I can see it was all well worth it and such fun to see you surprised and delighted. It is well deserved, m'dear, so enjoy. Besides, a little conspiracy is such fun and we all should endulge ourselves in one from time to time. I know they all enjoyed themselves immensely--and I only wish I could have been there!! (((hugs)))

Your 'concepts' on love (actually real 'knowing' goes beyond this cerebral cover) built in to our 'world of being's' foundation being Tolkien, i feel is the greatest truth. Having said that, i will say i love you Altaira. I love all yous guys. I love you Anneal. It is amazing what love manifests. You did good:). You all did good:). When we were questioning whether a list of names should be put around the border, where a thought arose where it could construed as 'back-patting', if i may use this wording, i said these names represent faces, spirits that love her and surround her and she should know that. As in the way Sam's family (my recent fanfic) surrounded him. We are all family.
"Tolkien, like Lewis, believed that, through story, the real world would become a more magical place, full of meaning. We see its patterns and colors in a fresh way. The recovery of a true view of the world applies both to individual things, like hills and stones, and to the cosmic - the depths of space and time itself. For in sub-creation, in Tolkien's view, there is a "survey" of space and time. Reality is captured on a miniature scale. Through stories like The Lord of the Rings, a renewed view of things is given, illuminating the homely, the spiritial, the physical, and the moral dimensions of the world." Tolkien and C.S. Lewis- The Gift of Friendship -Duriez May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings! In the air, among the clouds in the sky Here is where the birds of Manwe fly Looking at the land, and the water that flows The true beauty of earth shows With the stars of Varda lighting my way In all the realms this is where I stay In the realm of Manwë Súlimo By El~Cugu From the website: 'The Realm of Manwe'

...noon here in Hawaii. That means 6pm on the east coast, 3pm on the west coast. TCM is Turner Classic Movies and is hte BEST movie network... Besides being a great great place to find movies and lots of fun... it is also almost like going to film school. You may know all this, but just in case... Each month they have special focuses (called film festivals): Star of the Month, Director of the Month, and some theme. the do birthday tributres on a stqr or direcotr's birthday and memorium tributes when someone dies (usually within a few days). They have many documentaries (which I can't get enough of and copy/save), many great interviews (also copy/save), and the "Essentials" on weekends (the films that should not be missed). The special focuses are fantastic for really getting to know the filmography of an actor or director. When you see films all together like that, you get a real good idea of the talent. Actors I once thought I didn't care for I now love or at least apprecate their work. I know direcotrs a lot better now. What Ireally love is the historical stuff about film itself: about the inventions (when, who, how, effects, meaning in film history), what studios did what kinds of films, what they were famous for, who worked at what studio, what films were made whn, he importance 1939 in film history, ...so much more. I've written papers on the subjects of film history. It was my thing long before I became a Tolkien fan... since I was a kid sneaking up late to watch the old movies on tv with the volume down really low so my step-father would catch me. But I'm a very geeky historical film fan and TCM is 'home' for me. TCM, I think was made just for me!!!

I viewed this last night whille you all were sleeping Got home from my own Bilbo Party around 8:30 (that is 2:30 east coast). The string of shots as she opens it... tears rolling down my face. I agree with Morwen that the "ones of everybody taking turns posting on TORN. Somehow, that sort of brings the rest of us to the party with you." Cna't reall see much, or read much, but it makes it al cicular somehow. I love the folowup shots... how long the amazement stayred on her face, the reactions shots of the conspirators mirroring her reaction... All so wonderful. Thank you so much for these picts... It all helps put me right there and makes teh long wait worth while.. {{{hugs}}} DoN

that the very last "name' listed is "and Mellonea": and friends. Not everyone who loves Altaira and BG had a chance to contribute, but their love is included in that group hug around the border.

you'll see that I've identified the people in just a couple of the photos, so that you can figure out who they are in the others. Let me know if it's not clear. I was trying to be discreet and still give you guys a fighting chance :-)

You all are the reason this project was successful. Not only did you bring this about with your monetary contributions; your ideas, enthusiasm, discretion, patience, inspiration, and dedication are the reason we had such a wonderful day on Saturday. Add in the skills, generosity and professionalism of Daniel Reeve, and success was assured. So pat yourselves on the back for a job very, very well done. Those of us who could be present were just the enablers - YOU enabled us to be there. We're working out details for print and poster orders, so stay tuned! I know we already said that, but it's true!
Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver. `Are these magic cloaks?' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder. `I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves. NARF since 1974. Balin Bows

I'm the one in the silly hat. Uncle Baggins has a bushy beard. Our daughter is the young-un. (She was a TORnsib briefly once and her nick was May Gamgee). Entmaiden and Annael are the ones knocking at the door: Entmaiden is the one speaking in the video clip. BG is the one kissing Altaira (I should hope so!) And Altaira is the one squeeing and flapping her hand ;-) There may be a couple of other folks in some of the shots. A couple of Altaira's Tolkien society friends showed up. And an old friend of Annael's came over to see her while she was in town.

I did figure you out from the hat. I then worked out who walked in with you openly and who knocked on the door. Wasn't RosieLass in there? I thought she was part of the expected party. That left two who were knocking, who had to be Entmaiden and Annael. Someone mentioned Entmaiden holding her hand to her chest so that gave her away and identified Annael as the other. I figured out BG pretty easily and then looked for an someone taking pictures that might be married to a woman who wears a hat like that! :-D The young one: I kind of figured she might belong to you. It was all a bit like one of the logic puzzles.
