A Conspiracy Unmasked Can't Post

RosieLass says "She hates it!"

OK, not really; in fact, not at all. Altaira can't stand up because her knees are shaking and for the first time in memory, she did indeed "SQUEEE!". She says she'll never trust anyone of us again.

She's so afraid she'll drip tears on her Map, but she can't stop looking at it and finding something even more amazing. We haven't gotten much more out of her than "Wow", and "Squee".

She's still collecting her thoughts and will post soon. Right now all she says is she loves TORN and everyone on the message boards. She is really overcome.

We have video of the event will post it when we can.

We've been her for an hour and she hasn't left her map. BG is equally overwhelmed.

Annael adds:
None of the conspirators who are in/came to Colorado for this got much sleep last night! We were all too excited! Entmaiden & I had butterflies driving to Altaira's. Aunt Dora, Uncle Baggins, Rosielass, and May Gamgee parked in front, while we parked around the corner and peeked until we saw everyone had gone in. Then we brought the map to the door and knocked hard on it; Aunt Dora shouted "no thank you! We don't want any visitors, well-wishers, or distant relations!" and we yelled "What about very old friends?" Altaira opened the door and stared at us for about five minutes in disbelief. Then we gave her the card we'd gotten, thanking her for all her hard work on the new boards (and BG's). She thought that was the thank-you and was completely unprepared for the map itself. Uncle Baggins recorded her reaction, which I can't do justice to in words, but it was everything one could wish for. We all feel privileged and that to be part of the gift-giving was in itself a gift. None of us have ever been part of such an extraordinary thing before. This was truly a work of love in every way.

Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver.
`Are these magic cloaks?' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder.
`I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves.

to explain to those who weren't in on the conspiracy [In reply to] Can't Post

Last February, some of us began talking about how to thank Altaira and BG for the new boards. There were many ideas floated, but eventually we settled on a map of TORN with all the elements of TORN included, based on the map of Middle-earth. We contacted Daniel Reeve, who did the maps for the movies, and he agreed to do it. Many months of discussion ensued with people making suggestions for what should be included and where. There were several drafts before the final product, which is absolutely beautiful with many wonderful little features that you have to look at the map for a long time to see. We'll be putting pictures up soon.

If you are interested in a copy, stay tuned; we're working on that and will let you know!

Aunt Dora shouting "No Thank You!" and all... You guys know how to have fun!

This was sure the Long (on our part) Unexpected (on Altaira's part) Party.

I can't wait for more reports.

Here's a picture of the map. You may not be able to see all the details, but it is amazing how much stuff there is. It's absolutely stunning.

Oh Moon, lovely moon, with thy beautiful face,
Careering throughout the boundaries of space,
Whenever I see thee, I think in my mind,
Shall I ever, oh ever, behold thy behind.

YOU ALL ROCK!!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

BG and I are truly, truly speechless. I was already crying just reading the card. Little did I know what was yet to come. Smile

I really am speechless right now; HAPPY, but speechless, (and very shaky). I need to gather my breath and my thoughts and post a proper thank you to all you excellent friends and Hobbits.

Until then THAG YOU VERY BUCH seems like a pretty good start.

Isn't it BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

Squeee! Hey, why is this in Off Topic? [In reply to] Can't Post

There's never been anything more On Topic in the history of the boards, the topic being the boards themselves and thanks therefor and all. None of which would have existed if not for the good Professor's brilliant works. Can someone move this to Main? (Not Altaira if you're still shaking! :-)

I've been dying of suspense all day waiting for the big moment! Thank you so much to those who made the trip to give the map in person. The "what about very old friends?" bit was brilliant! I wish I could've been there to hear that exchange and see Altaira's reaction!

Yay! *throws confetti* This is the best conspiracy I've ever been a part of! :-D

You deserve it, Altaira.

And kudos to the conspirators for their style - that entrance was pure genius!

Sauron: "Mine's better."

Aunt Dora here. That little exchange was Annael's idea. Smile

Uncle Baggins took video, so we'll have to convert it to digital and then upload it somewhere. It may take a day or two. I'll try to get some photos up by tomorrow. We're taking *lots* of photos.

Uncle Baggins is asking BG lots of questions about cricket, and getting a detailed reply.Tongue
