Of all the things we've seen so far... Can't Post

What's been the most exciting for you?

Here at TORn, we all come from different backgrounds, different places, and we want to see The Hobbit for different reasons. It stands to reason that we're going to get excited about different things. So what's been the most exciting for you so far?

For me, it was the first Empire photos. Not only were they the first official production photos, but the first of what I'm sure will be many magazine covers, articles, and issues devoted to The Hobbit in the years to come. It was nice to see an old friend on the news stands again!

Martin Freeman cast as Bilbo [In reply to] Can't Post

Coming off the emotional rollercoaster that was preproduction on The Hobbit - which was soooo traumatic and drawn out that most of us on here have blocked it out of our memories - I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened TORN up to see a big picture of Martin Freeman.

He is literally the person I would have chosen. He was my dream pick. It brought a tear to my eye seeing that casting announcement. I know we had rumours and stuff but I never thought it would really be him.

Nothing has topped that so far, and nothing will - not until I'm sitting in theaters next Christmas.

"Tim... Canterbury... Canterbury Tales... Chaucer... Shakespeare."

That was a big day! [In reply to] Can't Post

Wasn't that the same day that the green light was announced and we had a huge flood of news, finally? Very exciting!

hmmmmm.... [In reply to] Can't Post

The release of the Empire photo featuring Bilbo with the Dwarves in the background would probably be the most exciting. Seeing Martin Freeman in costume was one of those moments where I just said "wow", and the tease of only having the Dwarves only partly visible was fantastic as well. But the most exciting thing about the release of that image was that blurry hint of Richard Armitage as Thorin. When I saw that I was taken completely by surprise, in a good way, thinking that they'd absolutely nailed him! I can't wait until we get to see more hints of how Thorin will be portrayed on screen.

The video blogs, particularly the third one, also rate a mention...they were fantastic too!

Empire photos [In reply to] Can't Post

First look at Bilbo.
First look at the dwarves.
And the return of Gandalf the Grey after ten years.

What an afternoon.

The first production video... [In reply to] Can't Post

To hear Peter Jackson talking backstage stuff again - see familiar faces from the EE DVDs...
...glimpses of Bag End
... most of all, of Rivendell - that was so exciting
... the cast - the first day ceremony
... hearing the familiar music playing
... "in a hole... in the ground...there lived a hobbit"

That video was the first time I really believed and could feel that it was all going to happen. Pure magic!

I must confess that I welled up a little at 'in a hole in the ground'...
It seemed very comforting and familiar somehow, like meeting up with really good friends after a long absence, You know that they've all been up to different things in the meantime, but when you see them all again, it's like no time has passed at all.. Smile

At the end of the first production video. With the little snippet that we saw in the third video of the filming of Riddles of the Dark being second.

- December 2007: TH movies officially announced
- July 2008: online chat with Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro
- January 2010: casting sheet appears online
- October 2010: TH movies officially greenlit, PJ on-board as director, much of the cast is announced
- April 2011: first video blog
- June 2011?: Empire article
- July 2011: second and third video blogs, Dwarf pics

Couldn't really pick just one! Tongue

parts with dwarves and Galadriel.

P.Jackson's announcement that the new character is not going to be romantically connected to Legolas.

Those are 2 things I have been excited about the most.

Also pretty much excited about casting choices for Bard and Thranduil

when I read on my phone that Ian McKellan had officially committed to coming back; unfortunatly, I was on a train full of people at the time! Shocked

And I'm not a girl either...although, I AM a girly-man, so I guess that's at least a partial excuse.

It's all been exciting, but Video Blogs have been the most enjoyable for me. [In reply to] Can't Post

Takes me back to LOTR, and I think they have been really informative. The first blog, where PJ stated that he was not interested in directing the films at first, but then says he is really excited to be back in Middle Earth was a great moment. That had been what was reported as he was going to produce the films, that he didn't want to compete with himself. But it shows that he is a fan like we are, that once he got into the saddle, he found how great it was to be back. The 3rd blog was also exciting with the footage of them location scouting for the second block of filming. I have also really enjoyed seeing the other memebers of the team in the blogs, Dan Hennah, Alan Lee, John Howe, etc.

Great Fun!!

I never thought i would read about someone [In reply to] Can't Post

having the exact same feelings as i did lol. Definitely Martin's casting has been by far the most excited i've ever felt. It was the news i was waiting for to have an offcial confirmation. The closest we got back then, was a twitter by Simon Pegg, that he later had to rephrase. And just days after that, boom! we got it.

I was teaching a night class one Thursday night last October, and saw the confirmation on my phone. I remember i wanted to just dismiss the class to go home and see it for myself in my laptop lol.

I wasn't familiar with any of the actors chosen for the dwarfs, not R.A., not even Aidan Turner. But the official announcement of the casting was definitely the most exciting day for me at TORN so far.

although Martin Freeman reading the permutations and conditions list is right up there.

And let me add, that if/when Ian Holm makes an appearance, that'll be it.
