I miss my TORnsibs What's wrong with me? Why haven't I been here for a while? Schoolwork and studying... highly overrated. Incredibly interesting, but often irritatingly time consuming *grabs a cup of steaming milk with a touch of chocolate in it* News... The study abroad class I was going to take this J-Term (January Interim) was canceled for lack of applicants, but I was able to transfer to a different study abroad course, and this one is better! (though more expensive) Assuming my transfer request is accepted, I'll be taking a course called "Mathematics and Mechanics of Byzantine, Greek, Roman and Islamic Architecture." It goes to Istanbul, Athens, Rome and Florence. I'm so excited In other news, school is hard (oh, wait, that's not news) Anywho, this weekend a couple friends and I are having a (partial) LotR EE marathon. The last movie will have to wait until a couple weekends from now.

and an oven that doesn't work? You definitely need a new oven/stove. Imagine all of the things you will be able to cook again once you replace it. If you get one now it will be just in time for apple pie season, yum!

your nerves haven't stopped you! That is good! I don't swim much, and one-half hour in the water is all I care to do, but I can keep from drowning and get from one place to another in the water -- that is enough for me.

While I am facing months of darkness and cold, wintry weather, it's good to know that the southern half is springing into spring. So glad you can sort out your garden!

I feel like I never seem to get around to Fiesta Friday until the end of the day on Fridays, so I made a point to come here first today. Things are going well, although this week has been a little rough with the kids. Dana's been going through a particularly painful teething, and on Tuesday, she was crying so much I nearly lost it. On top of that, I had to deal with the cable people, who were supposed to call me before they came (but didn't), and they ended up making me 15 minutes late to pick up Ian from his preschool. I felt so bad. Ian had a difficult time today too. Both these kids have such strong wills, and I'm glad they do, but it's not always easy to deal with. It seems that Dana thinks my name is Bye Bye. I guess it must be a particularly significant time of day for her when I leave and say goodbye. I think it's cute. It's not the oddest name a kid has called me. One of the kids my mom used to take care of called me Doll Doll. He loved dolphins and he called them doll dolls, so I would take him around the house, showing him any dolphin things in the house. Sure enough, he associated me with dolphins after a while and started calling me Doll Doll. My favorite, though, was when my older nephew used to call me Tattie Lene. He only called me that for a short time (he's very into being precise and calling things by their proper names), but it was the cutest thing. I went on a tangent there. Dana can now say: mama, dada, hi, bye bye, baby, bubble, baba (for bottle) ball, bear (she seems to like words that start with b), wow, doggie, and woof. I went to a wedding last weekend. Short ceremony, very long reception. It was for a couple that had already eloped 3 years ago. The groom's sisters were really upset that they didn't have a formal wedding, so the couple decided to save up for one. It was a nice, smaller wedding with a great reception. I got to sit with my nephew (he'll be 6 in less than a month.) I learned that in France, they teach children to write in cursive first, so Kieran was practicing his writing and wrote: "I love you Charlene, Love Kieran" for me. I just thought that was so sweet. I'm working with a new trainer now. My previous trainer went away to college in Canada (I hope he's enjoying it, he wasn't sure about going to Canada.) The new one is more experienced and does things differently, so I'm adjusting. I don't think he realized how much I can take, because after the 2nd and 3rd sessions, I didn't ache. He asked me about that... so he worked me a lot harder today. I'm hoping I don't feel like a mummy when I wake up in the morning. Oh dear, I feel like I have diarrhea of the fingers right now. I realize I just wrote a lot! I think I'll leave it with my plans for this weekend. I should wash my car... should being the operative term. Whether I will or not remains to be seen. I also want to go see a movie. Any suggestions are very welcome! Happy Friday everyone!
“Tell me one last thing,” said Harry. “Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?” “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”

Just did a heck of a lot of weeding, and bought some veges for planting in a few weeks when the soil is a bit warmer. A plus for garden centres: You can go there in your gardening clothes and few people will bat an eyelid. :D

its five minutes to midnight...I guess I made it for Fiesta Friday. I'm stuck at work in football doubleheader, luckily game #2 is underway, but slow. Game #1 was a record setter for slowness, and the league held the kickoff for Game #2 almost half an hour waiting for the first game to finish. Lucky me, I'm here at least a half hour later, probably about two in the morning I'll be getting on the road for my 45 minute commute home. It definitely could be worse, but my interest in this particular league is gone. The league beat it out of me several years ago now. Its a bad league all around....and not the NFL. That would be awesome to be watching the NFL. Anyway, I'm guessing I'm wandering behind the bar for some Guinness.....maybe a shot or two of Goldschlaeger.....maybe a black russian or two.....hmmmm.....what else can I get into whilst waiting for the final whistle of this irritating game!
What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"

Once again... I missed Fiesta, but I did toast one and all from the shores of Lake Michigan! I try so hard to get there every fall during the colour change of the trees. So my funnest day of the week was yesterday (Friday) as I ventured across Michigan to hang out on the shore. It was calming, but it was anything but calm!! Here's my Walk to Rivendell post that explained what I was anticipating. So read that, then read the rest of this. *Jeopardy music starts* *checks watch* *done yet?* OKAY! So, we stopped at that funky little Bookstore I go to whenever I'm in that part of the state called Wizards Bookshelf : Mecosta Book Gallery. It's an OLD former drugstore circa 1920 that has been converted into this bookstore packed from one end to the other, from top to bottom with BOOKS!! From the moment you open the door, you can see where the original counter is buried under books! Here's the cash register. You have to make sure you don't miss one of the side rooms, and have a care for the high security system. Even the loo is multi-functional. ;) This wonderful treasure trove is owned and run by a Wizard of books! And, like always, I left with several Tolkien (or related) books... with one I'm especially tickled I have found there for $4.00! Actually, it's the second one I've found there. It's the 1954-ish, 23rd printing of The Hobbit... the first US edition that has the changes Tolkien made in Riddles in the Dark to accommodate the storyline for LotR (from what I'm to understand). *sigh* I love this place! Then my daughter and I went on for 2 more hours to Lake Michigan. It was SO Perfect!! About 50 degrees (35 with windchill), waves cresting at an average of 13 ft (as high as 15) from gusts of wind at 45 mph... though they didn't look any higher than 5 ft to us on shore ;), threat of rain at any moment as we could see at least 4 rainfalls out over the water that tried to head our way! The wind created a sandblasted walk that nearly knocked us off our feet more than once. It was magnificent! Here's a very rough panoramic shot piecing several shots together. That's me on the far end dressed for the elements! I can't WAIT for next fall! I'm going to make sure it's just as blustery and this day was! *grabs a hot chocolate* It's a very long post... sorry... but WOW!! :D What a GREAT DAY! Cheers one and all! I hope you're having a great weekend!
I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

No, I mean it. September was just too darn rainy, but I do like grey, gentle rainy days. I walked around a town market fair in the rain, popping into a candy store before heading for the library's used book sale. I can never get through all the books in one visit, so I'll be back there again next week. And at the chocolate shop again, no doubt. *sigh* I was just out walking around my wee piece o' the Shire in the rain, too. Because I like to, not because I wolfed down a Burger King Whopper on the way home or because I started in on that box of hand-dipped gourmet truffles once I got home! I can burn off some of that knitting socks later, too, but I'll still be doing it because I want to. So, there! We've had a lot of mushrooms/toadstools I've never seen in the yard before, this fall. This could mean something....

Crammed into that itty-bitty space! What a delight for browsing! How did you come to find out about it? What a blustery day at Lake Michigan. Those can be the best days for a walk! Did you find anything of interest washed up on the shore?

when I just stopped to check it out. The small town it's in has about 1-block of buildings/storefronts... one of those that you blink and you've missed it. There are a few of these small-town bookstores on the way to the Lake, but nothing like this one! It's very easy to overdose on bliss in this place. This is also the store where I found a hc 1st edition of Unfinished Tales. Nothing unusual washed up on shore this trip, but the waves did occasionally come up and douse your feet as a rogue wave travelled way in! Made me think of the analogy of Tolkien's writing style was like waves coming up onto shore ;)

Taekotemple, your story about "Bye Bye" reminds me of my Mom and my niece. My sister-in-law used to bring my niece over to my parents' to say hello in the mornings. And my niece (very young at the time) associated my Mom so much with the phrase "Good Morning!" that she dubbed my Mom "Morning." It was such a great name that my Mom officially adopted it as her grandmother name, and all her grandchildren know her as "Morning." Anyway, hope the teething passes soon!
"Yes, but what about SECOND breakfast?"
