Popeye has spinach. [In reply to] Can't Post

Earendil only had a shiny rock.

Spinach wins over shiny rocks.

Lord Sméagol? Gollum the Great? The Gollum! Eat fish every day, three times a day; fresh from the sea. Most Precious Gollum!

Good point [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't recall spinach ever inspiring any sort of kin-strife.

Fresh spinach, no. [In reply to] Can't Post

but canned spinach, yah, that would probably horrify Earendil's dainty elf-senses.

spinach FTW, for as long as supply lasts that is. [In reply to] Can't Post

If it's a contest between mariners, Eärendil is probably better at actual sailing of a ship. Has anybody ever seen Popeye sail or even act as part of the crew of a ship?

However, Popeye may be better at everything else provided he has a can o' spinach handy. He can build a functional, spinach-fueled space ship, which should be able to outfly Eärendil. He could probably build a functional, spinach-fueled dimension-travel machine, take a trip to Middle Earth, and pop open up a can of somethin' on poor unsuspecting Eärendil.

But as soon as he runs out of spinach supply, forgettaboutit, Popeye gets popped.

And then after the "misunderstanding" is cleared up, they can collaborate by inventing a recipe for spinach lembas bread, which can help make Popeye's spinach supply last longer. look out Bluto.

"That doesn't make much sense to me. But then again, you are quite small. Perhaps you're right."

Earendil has a light that is so bright... [In reply to] Can't Post

it would be a light in dark places (when all other lights go out) and it lights the way to the undying lands when other ships can't get there. I think somebody who possessed that light would be the more formidable opponent. Or maybe it's just that I don't like spinach.

Was canning even invented in the First Age? [In reply to] Can't Post

If not, Popeye is in for a world of hurt.
