Illuminated Manuscript of the Silmarillion
|

|
|
Has anyone posted this before? I don't remember seeing it. Someone made a copy of the Silmarillion in the style of a medieval illuminated manuscript. http://www.tolkienlibrary.com/...del_Silmarillion.php
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars, and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man, for precisely the same reasons. -- Douglas Adams

I wish the Tolkien Estate would let him publish it because I want a copy!

“Tell me one last thing,” said Harry. “Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?” “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”

- the book is a beautiful work of art. I'd like to see the Folio Society produce an edition - they've published several editions of TH and lotR, and one of the Silm. Here's an example of what the Folio Society can do - http://www.foliosociety.com/book/FBH/1fitzwilliam-book-of-hours

At any rate, I think I've seen it before sometime. Absolutely gorgeous, isn't it? I would buy this book in half a heartbeat if it was ever legalized.
Lord Sméagol? Gollum the Great? The Gollum! Eat fish every day, three times a day; fresh from the sea. Most Precious Gollum!

Some who have read the book, or at any rate have reviewed it, have found it boring, absurd, or contemptible; and I have no cause to complain, since I have similar opinions of their works, or of the kinds of writing they evidently prefer. Who is that odd little fellow? - Saruman "Oh, you're a villain all right, just not a SUPER one!" "Yeah? What's the difference?" "Presentation!"

It's great to see someone keeping the tradition of illuminated manuscripts alive...

There's something very special about handcrafted books in this day and age of mass production. And the illuminations are great.
