In the Second Age, a parody/tribute Can't Post

In the Second Age
a parody/tribute, by me.

(to the tune of... you'll know.)

In the Second Age of Arda, a dark lord gave the Three,
To Elven kings from over the Sea.

In the Second Age of Arda, the Seven gaveth he
To Dwarven lords,
And the Three to Elves from over the Sea.

In the Second Age of Arda, some Rings bestoweth he:
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And the Nine to mortal men like me.

In the Second Age of Arda, with cunning, fashioned he
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to rule them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, the dark lord's legacy:
TWENTY GOLD RINGS.
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to rule them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, they donned their jewelry.
Sixth sense-a-tingling,
TWENTY GOLD RINGS.
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to rule them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, the dark lord thought with glee:
Seven Dwarves, I hear you,
Sixth sense-a-tingling,
TWENTY GOLD RINGS.
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to rule them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, the folk no longer free
Hated the enslavement,
Seven Dwarves in terror,
Sixth sense betrayed by
TWENTY GOLD RINGS.
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to rule them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, the dark lord’s deputies,
Nine Nazgul riders,
Hate and fear incarnate,
Seven Dwarves in terror,
Sixth sense betrayed by
TWENTY GOLD RINGS.
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to rule them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, the dark lord did decree:
Them, One to rule,
Nine Nazgul riders,
Hate and fear incarnate,
Seven palantiri,
Sixth sense betrayed by
TWENTY GOLD RINGS.
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to bind them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, his sentinels did see:
Elendil’s men-a-marching,
Then, Elves to join them.
Nine Nazgul riders
Hated to see them.
Seven years besieged,
Sixth sense betrayed by
TWENTY GOLD RINGS.
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
And himself One to bind them utterly.

In the Second Age of Arda, in Dagorlad valiantly,
Elves’ spears-a-thrusting,
Elendil’s sword-a-swinging.
Tenth finger falling,
Nine digits quaking,
Ate Narsil’s sharpness,
Severed at the joint,
Sixth sense abandoned.
TWENTY GOLD RINGS:
For the Men the Nine,
Three to the Elves,
To the Dwarves Seven,
But the One Ring, he lost it utterly.

Elven by name, Hobbit by nature

'Road lead ever on and on
down from the door where it began
now far ahead the road has gone
down from where all began' -FOTR-

and through all the world has changed
the ages come and go with time
and yet those remain unchanged
unto they journey westward
over the sea...

and through it all we remain strong and true
for eternity is bonds unbroken
beyond the sea...

into the realm of TORN!

Very clever! [In reply to] Can't Post

I like how you altered the phrases as the song went along, to match the history of the Rings! Smile

The repetitiveness (!) of 12 Days of Christmas kinda worked to my advantage b/c it gave me plenty of lines and words to alter as needed.

It was funny how the English language was there to help tell the story, giving me handy homonyms and sound-alikes. I almost missed "hate" as a sound-alike for "eight", but when it came to me, it all kinda fell into place. By the time it was done I was rather amazed how well the Second Age story fit into the song. It was quite a fun little project!

Thanks again!

Heh, we've gotten so many new folks on these Boards lately, that I can't keep track of who's just starting (even though, of course,I should have taken note of the "place" under your nick)!

Welcome to TORn! Smile Did you lurk for a while?

Re: Oh, that's right! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the welcome!

Have I lurked for a while? Actually I haven't done much lurking here in these forums exactly. I've heard about the forum recently from some members whom I've interacted with on the Imdb forum for The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey. I also have been posting on that forum regularly, under the same nick, for the past six months or so. However, I've been visiting TORN now and then for years and years, but mainly to check on Middle-Earth-related news and updates on the main page. It didn't occur to me that there was a discussion forum until recently as mentioned above.

Now that you mention the matter of designating a "place" for my nick, I'll be looking into that shortly.

Thanks again for the welcome!Smile

Brothers, sisters,
I was Elf once.
We danced together
Under the Two Trees.
We sang as the soft gold of Laurelin
And the bright silver of Telperion,
Brought forth the dawn of the world.
Then I was taken.

Brothers, sisters,
In my torment I kept faith,
And I waited.
But you never came.
And when I returned you drew sword,
And when I called your names you drew bow.
Was my Eldar beauty all,
And my soul nothing?

So be it.
I will return your hatred,
And I am hungry.

It must be because I'm homeschooled... [In reply to] Can't Post

and I'm serious, this is going to sound really, really sad/pathetic.

I'm looking at this song trying to figure out what on earth the tune is and I'm like oh well, probably some weird pop-culture song I wouldn't know...

and the weird thing was, each verse got longer and longer! There isn't an emoticon for "feeling extremely sheepish and pin-headed", so imagine one for me... Tongue

very well done, anyways. Love it! I'm going to print off the lyrics if that's ok and share them w/ my friend. We can drive everyone at quizzing bonkers by singing this 24/7 Evil Angelic

Can't be. [In reply to] Can't Post

I went to an inner city high school and I was thinking "In the Summertime (You Don't Want My Love)" by Roger Miller. The tune actually worked for a while.

(Of course I doubt anyone has ever heard of the song or the artist.)

Aw kontrair, my friend [In reply to] Can't Post

I have heard of Roger Miller.

Ok actually I wouldn't have a clue who he is except that he was on the Muppet Show episode #321.

In fact, probably something like 60% of the celebs I know I wouldn't have even heard of if it weren't for the Muppets Evil

I'm sorry you felt sheepish/pinheaded, i shouldn't have assumed everyone would know the song.

but by now you've figured it out, right? if not, let me know, I could PM you the answer, or if you prefer, I could PM you a hint.

i hope you do sing it, and if you do, let me know how it went, ok? most importantly, have fun singing it Smile

I didn't recognize the title or the name, but I looked it up and listened to it. I definitely recognize it from sometime in my childhood--I vaguely remember my big sister teaching it to me. Great song!
