Bakshi discussion thoughts... [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree that Bakshi would be fun to discuss!

From an organizing perspective, I've got these questions:

1. How many people own the film, or can get their hands on a copy?
2. How many people would be willing to lead?
3. How would we break up the discussion into manageable parts?

I'm willing to help figure this out -- but I would love if someone else took the lad on organizing this discussion. Or maybe we can do it as a group?

Thoughts? Volunteers?

I think I have the movie [In reply to] Can't Post

I've never watched any of the animated version but I've bought a bunch recently at thrift stores and I think Bakshi might be one. If not, I could get it from Netflix.

Not very interested in leading. Not too sure if I'd contribute just because I can't imagine having anything interesting to say (a comment more on my abilities than an indictment of the movie). I'm guessing other people will write things I'd love to read.

No suggestions as to manageable parts.

I have it. [In reply to] Can't Post

The only movie discussions I've led so far have been SCOD, but I'm willing to give it a try.

Where's Frodo?

Doesn't it make you ashamed, [In reply to] Can't Post

watching it with your mundane friends? I saw the Bakshi when I was in high school with a non-Tolkien-fan friend. When the movie was over I'm sure she wondered why the heck I liked that stuff. She may even have asked me, but it may just be my insecurities instead of a real memory.

I have it and have watched it lots of times [In reply to] Can't Post

so I would volunteer to lead. As with the Hildebrandts, I love the ones nobody else loves!

We should maybe break it into (groups of) chapters, depending on how long we want to get, or how detailed.

I'm in. Really. [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, it may not be the best of literary adaptations, but it definitely has its merits (which for obvious reasons I will not name here), some of which PJ made his own, some of which imho are better than in the 2001 version.
I'm in.

Now here's a thread I haven't seen in a very long time... [In reply to] Can't Post

I have my computer set up so that I get notified when someone replies to one of my posts -- was I surprised to end up here when I checked what you had posted!

This was the very first thread, I think, on LOTR Movie when we launched the "new" boards way back when...there's been 1,700 threads and 26,000 posts on this particular board since then.

So, yes we are still here...and talking about the Jackson trilogy of films...but not on this thread any more! The current page of the LOTR Movie Board is where you can find the talk still ongoing, so feel free to join in!

so fun! // [In reply to] Can't Post

I am a dreamer of words, of written words. I think I am reading; a word stops me. I leave the page. The syllables of the words begin to move around … The words take on other meanings as if they had the right to be young.
