Opens door... Hey, kind of nice in here! Thanks for the nice new place to hang out, oh, great TORN organizers! I'm going to start a new Movie Trivial Pursuit series to kick things off (will start that on Monday). What about the rest of you? What new (or continuing favorite discussions) do you want to participate in? Reply here, if you like, or dive in with a new thread! The new Movie Board is officially open for business!

Hey, weaver. I told you a few days ago that I had an idea for a Movie Trivia game. I think the easiest way to 'describe' it is to put it out there as a beta test. I'll post a new thread, we can all look it over... play... comment... tweak... schedule... discard the idea... whatever. Weekends are definitely easier for me to putter with tasks than weekdays.

Trivia Game question for you Magpie!

Magpie: I was going to do a week of Trivial Pursuit (the game) questions to launch the new Movie Board -- will that work with what you have in mind? That would give you a bit more time to get your Movie Trivia Game beta-test figured out. If you are ready to go on Monday, though, I will GLADLY defer. I'll check back through Monday morning (US EST) before posting anything. THANKS

I'm going to post questions from the LOTR Trivial Pursuit game (Movie version)

I was going to post one question a day from the LOTR Trivial Pursuit Movie edition, all of next week, as a way to kick off this new Board. After that, I was thinking of doing just one a week -- a Monday Morning Trivial Pursuit question would be a good way to start off each week. If you -- or anyone else -- has the Movie Triv. Pursuit game, I'd welcome help after the first week. If not, I can handle it. Between this kind of thing, and what Magpie has in mind for a Music Trivia Game, that would add some nice variety to this Board. I'll also post something next week to see what ongoing discussions people would like to see -- SCOD, Annotated, something else?

weaver: I think your questions have been mostly answered by my other post, but to be clear about one thing... this idea of mine would not be an every day post. I thought it could be a weekly post but my files weren't as orderly as I'd hoped. So it may have to be every other week... although I could post a similar but much simpler challenge on the alternate weeks.

The Trivial Pursuit game idea I'm going to start is a no brainer -- I just have type up the stuff on a card. So that's relatively easy to do each week. The Music Trivia game you have proposed is a gift to us, but will take more time to do right -- so when you can do it, it will be great. Weekly, bimonthly, monthly -- whatever! I'm having a hard time figuring out where to respond to you -- this new Board is going to take some getting used to (for me), but I think it will work once we break it in!

/me runs and hides. I think a Trivial Pursuit is a great idea. I will have to watch the movies again for that, but isn't it a great excuse? :-) A Bakshi discussion would be interesting, in all seriousness. It is very flawed, yes, but done so that it's not just a mindless Bakshi-bashing fest, it could be fun. Some of us remember when that's all there was, and even liked aspects of it! Gramma, you saw it multiple times, I know! I say the same for Rankin Bass too! Bring it on. It would be a different kind of thing for the new movie board, but it could be entertaining, and would give us a chance to compare his version with PJ's (remember PJ was very influenced by that flick since he, like me, came to LOTR early on when that film was all there was).

I'm with drogo -- I think it would be fun. Look how lively the Hildebrandt illustration discussion has been in the RR. Sure, there's stuff we love to hate, but everyone is familiar or at least acquainted with it, and there are a lot of positive attributes to be discussed as well.

Having seen the Bakshi version six times and also more frequently (on the big screen no less) than the Jackson version, which I've seen only once, I'd be up for this.

And alone. It was scarring. Arathorn linked me to a detailed review, and after that I felt better. The only way I'd watch it again would be in the company of other Tolkien fans.

Cartoon Network played it about 3 or 4 years ago, and my brother and I were really curious, so we watched it. My mother watched it for about five minutes before she left the room in horror. I remember laughing quite a bit. Some of the voice acting was good, but the overall animation was just, well, terrible (especially to two kids who were introduced to LOTR by PJ's FOTR trailer). But the Tolkien Sarcasm page and it's commentary on the movie always makes me happy. I'd only watch it with other LOTR fans. Or my brothers, both who can be very entertaining.

Something simple! Some Trivial Pursuit for a while until we all get our bearings around here. I am still so oohing and aahhing, just doing so much LOOKING around, at everyone's avatars and new footers, etc., that I'd just like some fun simple stuff to chat about for a while. It's kind of like that first week in a new school. It's hard to concentrate . What do you think of Alnilam's idea below, about discussing the Bakshi film, once we start up again? It would be something reeeeeeeeeally different, to go along with the really new boards . I haven't seen them (it?), myself. But it sounds interesting.
