I gave up smoking a few years ago, but I do stop and and talk to the poor smokers in their little leper colony in back of where I work. They say I'm so much nicer and tolerant than any other ex-smoker they know. Little do they know I'm only there to inhale....

The reason is in my family, my brothers and I knew that we couldn't hit each other. It was some kind of unspoken rule we never really talked about. So my older brother used to tickle torture me until I couldn't breathe. It's a horrible, horrible feeling, like drowning even though if you could only take a breath, you'd be fine. And to this day, I still get jerky around people if they go near any part of my body that's particularly ticklish. I'm even careful not to overdo it with children who want me to tickle them, because I don't want them to have that hang-up.
Older brothers... *sigh*

Every time I'd say, "I'm going to tell mom" as a kid, my older brother would say, "She's not going to do anything about it." And he was right.
Being a widowed single parent is tough. I think sometimes she was kind of not there mentally when she should have been. Even to this day, my older brother wishes she were more of a disciplinarian.
