An older looking thorin Can't Post

generally impressed with the dwarves, but still pretty unhappy about thorin, supposedly the oldest of the dwarves.

still, nothing that some grey hair and a bigger beard wouldn't remedy:

Why did you have to post this? [In reply to] Can't Post

Now I won't be able to get it out of my head.

Oh, what could have been... Unsure

(Just to clarify, I love it.)

Nice photoshop, but... [In reply to] Can't Post

For me, the actual Thorin looks a lot more regal (no offense), and it's good that he has his own distinctive look. You need to make Thorin stand out, and what Weta has done with Richard Armitage achieves just that (in a good way). You're photoshop skills are fantastic though! Good job Smile

I am curious then [In reply to] Can't Post

How does this older Thorin stand out less than the real one?

I really like it, not that this is how I imagined Thorin, but at least he's got more beard.

He looks too much like the dwarves in the prologue of the Fellowship [In reply to] Can't Post

None of those stand out for me. The beard is a non-issue, as far as I'm concerned...do you really expect the average moviegoer to care? PJ isn't making the movie for diehard Tolkien fans, he's making it for a much broader, worldwide audience (so as long as he sticks to the plot, extra bits notwithstanding, the beard doesn't matter as long as Thorin still looks dwarvish, which, in my mind, he does). Thorin looks great, he looks like a leader of dwarves who is haughty, determined and greedy, and that's enough for me.

Well done. That would be an improvement. However, I'd rather see his beard to his belt, if we are going to make adjustments.

Speaking of average movie-goers [In reply to] Can't Post

I wonder what players of, say, Warcraft and Dungeons & Dragons games will think of these short or non-existent beards?

needs more beard [In reply to] Can't Post

I've played Wow and D&D. I can tell you, precisely because I started with Tolkien, that all of my dwarven characters have LONG BEARDS. As a matter of fact, I play LOTRO periodically and if you've played that game you know that there are really only 2 or 3 acceptable beards out of all the choices (the longest approaching the belt).

Dammit [In reply to] Can't Post

This mockup looks waaaaaaaaaay better than the official casting. Like you, I love the dwarves but still can't get my head around Thorin.

Thorin = oldest = logically he should look at LEAST as old as the oldest looking dwarf from the other 12. How they failed this I still can't comprehend.

I love LOTRO. [In reply to] Can't Post

And my dwarf toons are my favorite characters.

But I'm really glad that Peter Jackson isn't making the movie with 13 characters that look like my alts do.

agreed! [In reply to] Can't Post

hm...

maybe after TH comes out, someone who's got way too much time on their hands and has amazing skills on photoshop should go through the movie and fix his beard. then they could put it on youtube or something and we could all watch it and marvel about Thorin's beard...

ridiculous and silly i know, but a girl can dream, can't she?

I think you've done a wonderful job, but I think he may look too old.

I always imagined him with brown hair, or maroon.

Why is Balin discribed as old looking if Thorin was looking older?
Yes, he is the oldest dwarf, but Balin looked older ;)
