Christopher Lee is currently filming for the Hobbit Can't Post

According to Derren Brown:
http://twitter.com/#!/DerrenBrown

"Off to watch some Ian Holm and Christopher Lee being filmed for The Hobbit. HOW EXCITING!"

Goes without saying, this is currently happening in England, not NZ.

As to exactly where - your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps in Warner Brother's Harry Potter studios? (aka Leavesden)

He mentions Ian Holm also being shot. And we can presume Frodo is also in England....

Wow, that's awesome! [In reply to] Can't Post

But who in the wide, wide, world of sports is Derren Brown? And how does he get to watch them being filmed?

Also, I do dearly hope that they treat Sir Chris and Sir Ian (both legends) very well by at least giving them sets or props, or other actors, and not just giant green-screens to film in front of.

They might just be killing two birds with one stone. [In reply to] Can't Post

Why bother stretching it out by filming them at separate points if they're both available now? They obviously aren't filming Saruman and Bilbo together in the same scene, though.

Derren Brown... [In reply to] Can't Post

Is a "magican" in the UK. He's extremely talented and extremely popular.

As to why he's getting to see the filming - who knows. Celebs get to see stuff all the time !

Yeah obviously... [In reply to] Can't Post

I didn't think Bilbo and Saruman were together in a scene. As you said, it clearly two birds one stone. For the actors that are too old or too sick to travel in NZ....

I'm delighted that it's happening !! hope Christopher Lee doesn't look too old...

Great news [In reply to] Can't Post

I was expecting it to be a while before these scenes were filmed, so it's quite reassuring to know that it's already underway. I wonder if Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis are involved?

Just Guessing... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm just guessing, but since Andy Serkis mentioned he was returning to England - there's a high chance he might be filming the scenes. I doubt that Peter would have flown all the way to the UK just for such a small shoot. HE seemed to be up to elbows in other work (editing, prep work etc etc)

Most likely [In reply to] Can't Post

As Andy mentioned in the second videoblog, he's on "vacation" in the UK. So I think it's pretty safe to say he'll be directing these scenes.

Derren Brown [In reply to] Can't Post

I wonder if he's involved with the production in some way? After all, Christopher Lee IS playing a wizard... perhaps there will be some degree magic/illusion in Saruman's scenes?

I doubt it... [In reply to] Can't Post

They didn't need any of that for Lord Of The Rings.

Plus Deren isn't that type of Magican.

I'd say he's merely getting to see the scene being shot because he knows someone on the production. Maybe he's friends with Andy Serkis or something

I'm a tad concerned about ADR two years down the road, I wonder if they will ADR their scenes now after they have finished shooting just in case?

"There is a long road yet," said Gandalf. "But it is the last road," said Bilbo.

too sicl or old [In reply to] Can't Post

We know that Christopher Lee didn't feel up to traveling to NZ, so this is definitely to accommodate him, I'd say. Sir Ian M, on the other hand, doesn't seem to mind hopping on planes. On Peter Jackson's latest vlog, it was stated that during the current break in NZ filming, Sir Ian was going to fly back to merry olde England to do a play. Nothing was mentioned about doing any filming for TH in the UK.

Ian Holm is sick... [In reply to] Can't Post

I read it somewhere recently that his health isn't great and that's why he wasn't doing his scenes in NZ.

But sure they are killing two birds with one stone so it's all kinds of awesome !

Automated dialogue replacement [In reply to] Can't Post

All dialogue has to be re-recorded in order to get the best possible sound quality. Every line, cough, sneeze etc, because when you're on set or location there's too many distracting sounds in the background.

Not everything... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm pretty sure ADR is only done where the Original sound recordings are not up to scratch. So in Lord of the rings, there was a lot done because they shot a lot of the film on location....

It's not a big concern for me [In reply to] Can't Post

The worst we'll have to contend with is slightly subpar audio quality in a few scenes. It would be a bit of an annoyance, but nothing catastrophic. As long as the scenes in question are actually filmed with Christopher Lee and Ian Holm, I think I'll be able to live with it.
