Sounds like they're going to do the barrels! Can I say that, or is that a spoiler?

only a little less because that one was the first one! Are the video production diaries of King Kong on the DVD or Blu-ray? I hope they decide to include these. I'd like to have them forever.

What great, beautiful locations they were at, some of those mountain passes were stunning. Good to see Andy getting his directing chops exercised. I do believe we can spy some shots of Elrond and Bilbo doing various things. Some of those sets are amazing looking!

My body was not prepared for this. We got looks at Freeman, Weaving, and Serkis in action, a couple of sets, and the beautiful New Zealand landscape. Wow. Have to take it all in for a second.

Andy in the motion capture suit doing the Gollum voice! Bilbo and Elrond! Yay!
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars, and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man, for precisely the same reasons. -- Douglas Adams

Beautiful countryside to work with. What a treat to scout with Alan Lee and John Howe.

Silverlode "Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them. Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you." -On Fairy Stories

I was afraid they might overdo the CGI landscapes this time around, but seeing PJ and the team fighting off branches and bad weather in these beautiful places brings a smile to my face. Yay for location shooting!

I was getting worried in light of what was said in Empire about a relatively fewer amount of locations compared to LOTR, but this has me starting to feel a lot better.

There are a couple of possibilities for the rocky places.

The one where they were discussing Gandalf and the dwarves hiding, I'm guessing might be them running away after fighting their way out of the goblin caves. Other rocky shots could be for the slopes of the Lonely Mountain. They have to work their way up the side of the mountain toward the secret door, so there should be plenty of rocky slopes to contend with there.

Oh, I was delighted to catch this—just got a new RSS feed reader that will only update on the half hour, so it's going to be a bit touch and go for a little while. I look forward to both new and old locations. Serkis and Jackson look great and the miniscule teases from the actual filming are fantastic. (I love Bilbo just staring up at Elrond at more or less of a loss.) And I definitely look forward to the next production video by the end of summer, hopefully.

Five reveals of the dwarves...production blog # 2....all in a couple of days??? Thanks Pete ! Love ya big guy ! It was so cool to see Andy Serkis feeling the weight of the 2nd unit director role ( that means he's putting his heart & soul into the job, just like his Gollum role ) as well as so many little tidbits ! Elrond shots, mocap Gollum shots, behind the scenes goodies...OMG, it's like a preview of The Hobbit appendices. What a gift after a taxing week at work.
