Fili & Kili - Auditiom Can't Post

For Audition Purposes Only Not Actual Script Pages
FILI & KILI - AUDITION
Two Dwarf brothers, nephews to Thorin Oakensheild, the
legendary Dwarf Lord who is heir to the Kingdom of Erebor.
Fili and Kili are of noble lineage, not that you would
necessarily know it from their relaxed demeanor.
In human years they would be in their early to mid twenties
with Fili being the elder of the two (Fili is probably fair
haired, but this is not essential.) They are both goodlooking,
strong and expert fighters having been trained with
weapons as from a young age.
Of the two Fili feels the weight of Thorinís expectations
more keenly. Kili is more carefree and reckless.
An ability with accents - either Scottish, Irish, Welsh or
Northern English - would be an advantage.
Fili and Kili will be required to wear a wig and beard, and
some minor prosthetics make-up, like a nose or forehead, is
possible.
THORIN and COMPANY have taken shelter from a torrential
downpour under the sparse cover of a clump of barren trees.
Despite many efforts no-one has been able to light a fire.
KILI and FILI sit down opposite a glum looking BILBO who is
huddled to one side away from the others.
KILI
Whatís the matter with you?
BILBO
I thought someone was going to light a fire ...
KILI (to FILI)
Did you say youíd light a fire?
FILI
A fire? Shouldnít think so.
KILI
Can you imagine it, Fili? The
wonderousness of a blazing hearth?
FILI
Ah, but weíre not used to such luxuries.
KILI
I canít remember the last time I saw a naked flame.
FILI
I can ...and I wish sheíd kept her clothes on!
KILI
Pay no attention - he thinks heís a wit.
FILI
Speak for yourself. Heís not half as bright as he looks.
KILI
Which makes me twice as bright as my brother.
FILI
Only when Iíve had one too many.
KILI
Did he just call me half-wit?
BILBO
Well I -
FILI
Hard of hearing as well! Thatís a double handicap.
KILIíS FACE sours.
KILI
Enough!
FILI
But his worse trait by far -
KILI
I said - thatís enough!
FILI
Is that he canít take a joke.
KILI jumps to his feet, drawing his SWORD.
KILI
Do not believe a bond of blood will stop me from spilling yours.
FILI jumps to his feet and draws his SWORD.
FILI
If your blade is as sharp than your tongue - prove it.
KILI
Iím warning you, Fili. Donít push your luck -
FILI
Didnít you hear me? Iím ready to finish it!
KILI
A fight to the death! Is that what you want?
FILI
Aye, right here, brother. Right now.
They clash swords ...BILBO jumps up, terrified.
BILBO
Wait! Stop - please! Donít!
THE DWARVES stop in mid fight and turn and look at BILBO.
KILI suddenly laughs.
KILI
Whatís up with him?
FILI shrugs.
FILI
Halfings are so terribly gullible!
KILI
Fear not, Master Baggins, thereís a strict law amongst Dwarves - we
donít murder our relatives.
FILI
Anyone else is fair game.

LOL, brilliant! [In reply to] Can't Post

Even if that scene isn't in the movie, I love that, goofing with Bilbo. Laugh
I do wonder where you're finding this stuff, Kangi?

Pffft... for a second I climbsed a friendly mockery of the FŽanor vs Fingolfin face-off [In reply to] Can't Post

Must have been the swords sharper than tongues...

It's taking a while to digest this... mostly, I like it.

Plus, I think we should have buried Tolkien in a larger coffin, he probably cant turn very well in his. -Rossmonster

There's a lot of Fred and George in that one [In reply to] Can't Post

Very funny! But I sincerely hope that adolescent pastiche is not the style of the Dwarves' dialog in the actual films, or I will feel like murdering someone for murdering Tolkien.

This, pretty much [In reply to] Can't Post

I like how Fili & Kili are rogue young guys with healthy Dwarven attitude. But it needs polishing.

Oh I like it [In reply to] Can't Post

It seems very "Fili and Kili" to me. :) It's not perfect but it was only an audition scene and I think a scene like that would be very entertaining, and in keeping with their relatively young practically "adolescent in dwarf years" quality.

I aminterested in what the two young ones are going to look like(dwarfed up, I know what they look like normally and Aidan Turner is quite the hottie)--in their case "good looking" was actually part of the casting description, so what's a good looking dwarf look like?

They'll haveÖ [In reply to] Can't Post

Very lovely beards indeed! I don't think they'll be pretty boys by any stretch, but they'll be right attractive by dwarven standards.

As everyone else has said, it's just an audition scene and I wouldn't care to see it in the film, but the Fred and George quality someone mentioned upthread is importantóthis audition is to test that the actors can have that sure-footed timing twins can have, since they're so close. If they pulled this off, I look forward to their interaction in the actual script!

Oh, God... [In reply to] Can't Post

I hope the actual dialogue isn't this cheesy in the films themselves...Tongue

I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

"Internal Dwave Family-fighting"? is a great idea! Give each Dwarf something to say...JRRT's version didn't write much about it, so I'm hoping PhillipaB graces us with amazing sub-texts like what you proposed...

Fun! [In reply to] Can't Post

That had to have been a fun audition piece to do. The language is a little too modern in parts, like "what's up with him?" I do see a little Merry and Pippin in there, but maybe it's a bit more Merry and Merry? If so, I be glad to see that they don't overdo trying to recreate Merry and Pippin. These characters should be themselves, and not cookie cut-outs.

I do find it interesting that they signified that one of the two brothers may be fair-haired. Going for the fraternal twins, it sounds like, which makes for easier casting, that's for sure.
