After nearly a year waiting, I found out yesterday that I got promoted... this was a huge deal for me. The saga to getting promoted in my job is pretty epic, including sitting exams, filling out 12 page self assessment forms, interviews... You'd swear I was applying for to be president of somewhere :)
But after months waiting - I got the good news yesterday. Considering how terrible the economy is here in Ireland, it's kinda like a mini miracle !!
On top of that my good lady friend finished up in college this week. She was really busy this last month, finishing up assignments, doing work placements and studying...
Over all it's been a good week and the sun is out here in Dublin so things are looking good for the weekend :)

Do they have fireworks up on a mountain somewhere for the town to see, or is it too much of a fire hazard?

I work in the Civil Service and I came in at an Entry level Clerical staff. I'm now being promoted i'll technically into a supervisory role... kinda like a team leader, but at the moment i won't have staff. I'll be doing different work I guess... am delighted though, it's very hard to get promoted in the job and there was over 2000 people able to apply for the position so i'm fairly chuffed :)

though I must say I'm quite anxious about the whole applying to grad school business that is coming up WAY too fast

One of about four or five around the city. I'm not much of one for fireworks (Gandalf spoilt me on that one! hehe) but we'll see what my boy wants to do.
Well, the un-scrubbed version of my post tells of some of the difficulties still ahead but overall the worst is probably over.

Applying for jobs in a 15mile radius - but no luck. seems I need to learn Urdu and Polish and graduate and drive and get 20 years experience under my belt to even be considered for work round here....
I am too old for apprenticeships now.
I cant do college/university - costs
so looks like im stuck as a 'dole dosser' for the next 40 years....

It took me 9 tries at University and 29 years after HS to get my bachelor's and I took LOTS of 'detours' but I never gave up on anything (except twice on finding a GOOD mate, which resulted in 2x divorces!) and those taught me not to give up there either.
Find a way. I don't know what that might be, but find it!
