British actor Sir Ian McKellen, who played the wizard Gandalf in the trilogy, is in Wellington to perform with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
At a news conference on Thursday, he said there was no doubt that a rumoured reprisal of his Gandalf role in a film version of The Hobbit would be discussed with Jackson and Walsh.
Jackson's spokesman said last night: "Peter and Fran have always wanted to do The Hobbit but whether that happens is yet to be decided."

yes, it gives me hope... [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess in the back of my mind I had wondered if Jackson etc. really wanted to make the Hobbit or if it was a "should" kind of thing. This makes me feel better that they are really interested in doing it, not just wanting to keep control, etc.

Part of what made the LOTR work for me was the passion they brought to it -- the kind of thing you do when you are making a work of art, not just "doing business." While I know everyone is a different space than before, I wouldn't want them to do the Hobbit if they didn't have at least some of the drive and focus they had last time. So this kind of info makes me feel a lot better!

Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm very hopeful about it. In fact, I just finisheed a bit of Graphic Optimism in the form of a desktop that I'd like to share with you all (seeing as it's my 1st post here).
I had seen this image on the web:

and figured I'd re-do it as a "better" image for myself while I sit here and hope against hope PJ will be doing this film.

Here it is:

It's in 1024 x 768.
Criticisms and / or praise welcome. Wink
Enjoy!
And let's keep our fingers crossed!
Cool

Love it! :D / [In reply to] Can't Post

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Rollercoaster Hope [In reply to] Can't Post

If I had heard this a year ago it would have raised my hope. A year ago I did have my hopes raised, and then dashed, like many must have felt. But now I am not sure if allowing myself to hope without good reason is a good thing. I agree with getting your voice heard and trying to support the effort. A year ago I signed petitions, answered polls, wrote to all the parties involved, started threads, passed the words on, etc, etc. But unless some clear reason presents itself, I do not think it worthwhile to redo things like that. It is a kind of rollercoaster to me, but not the kind that you want to ride again, because you end up just back where you started.

I am still pretty mad at the companies involved, or at least the people in them who made and influenced decisions. The industry as such did not acknowledge the fans much, if at all. I think our head count represented dollar signs, but our words & hopes counted for little. They were spilled on the floor.

What we hear now is only an improvement in the atmosphere really. Which is better then bitter fighting, like wolves over the dismembered works of JRRT.

Absolutely orcbane [In reply to] Can't Post

This whole rollercoaster ride is numbing me, and the only real happiness I will feel is when everythings finalized. I hate to say it, but really, fans seem to count for nothing, except as cash machines Frown

"Crows and Gibbets! What is the house of Eorl but a thatched barn where brigands drink in the reek and their brats roll around on the floor with their dogs! You are but a lesser son of greater Sires."
