I just meant that after seeing the pic I can understand why they would make him that way, not being agist at all.

I remember I went to shows just to see the trailer... and left when the movie started ;) I've had a piggy bank going for over a year for my tickets!!! *twitch*
I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world. TORn's Observations Lists Unused Scenes

I had a work meeting in Barnes & Noble yesterday and decided to pick up the copy of Entertainment Weekly afterwards. I'm glad I paged through it thoroughly, because they're not in there! The cover features Ryan Reynolds (promoting Green Lantern, obviously) and it is dated June 24th, but there's neither hide nor hair of these photos, even though there's a small feature looking at up and coming films and shows. What a tease!

I tend to think of Thorin as being similar to a human man in his forties. I may be wrong, but I seem to remember reading that he was slightly vain about his appearance , so he might not have been extremely old by Dwarf standards. PJ probably went more for the 'warrior-in-his-prime' look, rather than the 'old veteran' appearance for Thorin. Personally I'm OK with what I've seen so far. It's his character that I really want to see. (I think PJ was mostly spot-on with the cast in the LOTR Trilogy, so I'm hoping he manages to to the same in the prequel movies). I'm a bit surprised at how long it will take them to shoot The Hobbit, but I'm thinking that the scenes for Nine Companions would have been a little easier to plan out and film than the ones for One Wizard, One Hobbit And Thirteen Dwarves.

Woooooooohooooooo! my hope is restored, this looks so awsome1 Finally a pic of Martin as bilbo, hairy feet and all, Good to see Ian back in the grey robes and cloak and of course the dwarves, bushy eye brows and beards galore,Im so happy! it would be nice to have a close up though, because some of that background in the first pic looked like a map painting to me...
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us- Gandalf to Frodo

I think it's the band of paler skin one gets when one habitually wears a watch outside and then takes it off

I wouldd consider a watch too modern for that time, it's a comparatively new invention and doesn't fit in my vision of Middle-earth in the Third Age.

And, if so, which bit? Surely the dwarves we can see are real actors -- even if the image has been somewhat 'photoshopped'?

I don't think Tolkien would be against big feet...

The hobbits were supposed to be like rabbits, being small, quiet and living in holes. Bilbo was a Harfoot which translates as hare foot. while this is an intentional pun on them having hairy feet, there's no reason it couldn't also mean hare-like feet, so big feet aren't out of the question. I personally pictured hobbit's ears to be of a likeness to rabbit ears. Not in position or size, but long and thin pointed shapes on the sides of their heads. Tolkien described elf ears to be leaf-shaped. I always liked the idea of an oak or ivy leaf shape for their ears

until I realized from the early posts in this thread that these figures were actually the dwarves! I had to go back to the EW picture and look again --- and to me they still look painted!

... (I do wonder sometimes if spelling mistakes are like Freudian slips) but I do agree with you, I've read TH several times and I always got the impression that he is definitely not young any more or even middle-aged (apart from his actual years) --- very set in his ways, not flexible in thinking, very autocratic, those are characteristics I associate with people long past their prime.

I was going to make a trip to the local drugstore to pick this up today. Gasoline is down, but I would have been miffed to make the trip for nothing. Thanks!

They're in the newest issue with True Blood on the cover. I've seen the article and as long as my issue arrives in the mail today, I'll scan it tonight to put on a Richard Armitage site and I can post it here (unless someone beats me to it).
