It hadn't occurred to me before, but... [In reply to] Can't Post

In a parallel universe, I bet Donald Sutherland could've made a great Gandalf (or Saruman for that matter).

Though Donald Sutherland would not fit The Hobbit he has a good look here:

Hmmm...Last night on Jimmy Fallon's show [In reply to] Can't Post

Elijah Wood said that the hobbit feet technology had advanced, and they no longer need glue. It could just be a creative change, but maybe the new technology has something to do with it, too.

Maybe it's just me... [In reply to] Can't Post

...but that looks more like a painting than a photograph.

And I can barely see the dwarves, although that's more the fault of my eyes and my contact lenses than the picture. Tongue

But Bilbo looks fabulous. I love it!

And everyone does realize that... [In reply to] Can't Post

...this is just a snapshot, and that there is a lot of processing that goes on after the film is shot.

So it's a little early to be worrying about "bad" makeup and such.

Wow...these look awesome! [In reply to] Can't Post

Bilbo could very well be a young Ian Holm--in other words, necessary continuity is preserved.

Gandalf the Grey is just so wonderful.

We're going back to Middle-earth next year guys. Can't wait!

Forget the feet, I think his nose is too big. [In reply to] Can't Post

And his neck is too thick. And you can see the tan line where he wears his wristwatch!

He's all wrong! He's nothing like the Bilbo in my head! Jackson is messing up bigtime!! How could he since LOTR was so *perfect*!! It's going to be a big disaster!!! Arrrgggghhhhhhhh!!!!

(Oh, and by the way, just a thought: I wonder why studios are so hesitant about releasing production photos before a movie comes out?)

New pics [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree, I mean I KNEW Bilbo would be perfect because well I could just picture Freeman as a Hobbit, it didnt even take much imagination. And it's amazing how 12 years don't seem to have passed at all with Gandalf the Grey, he looks just as he should.

I think what little we can see of the dwarves looks terrific. I mean they've said from the start there would be fewer prosthetics and IMO that's fine, just because Gimli looked a certain way doesn't mean all dwarves need to, they are just like humans in that they have a variety of looks.

And from the looks of it, Thorin looks quite tough and warrior like, definitely "kingly" and more than a little scary(in a good way, like he's not a guy you necessarily want to mess with). He reminds me very much of that, was it John Howe's?, drawing of Thorin Oakenshiled. So I think he's perfect. I like the other dwarves we can see lurking too, the white haired one(sorry I can't remember which dwarf that is) and the dark haired one that I'm assuming is Kili because he looks youngish.

I now have no worries about it whatsoever(aside from a slight nervousness about Tauriel I just can't see the need to add characters not in the book)

In Reply To
As is already said, Bilbo looks pretty much as we knew he would look, and it's nice to see him and all. BUT DAMN, the last time we saw Gandalf the Grey was when he dropped off the Bridge of Khazad-dum and the White edition just wasn't quite the same.

I'm suprised we got this much already. The Dwarves, from the little we can see, look absolutely perfect. These images made me trust PJ even more.

Wonderfull stuff.. [In reply to] Can't Post

Nice to see photo's so soon into production.

I'm not going to start judging the dwarfs by that picture though... heck i'm not going to judge them by any photos. I'll wait to see the movies ...

Freeman looks perfect but then he always did in my head..

Gandalf looks like Gandalf no doubt. It literally looks like his face from the scene in Fellowship, where he was sitting beside the fire and was thinking about the ring...

Most likely these are not even shots from the movie... [In reply to] Can't Post

... but staged specifically for early promotion and taken with a still camera. They might not be indicative of how the movie will look in terms of mood, coloring and stuff like that.

The dwarves look photoshoped in.
