Sneak peak at my latest project :) Can't Post

Hi all

Been keeping busy working on this. It's taken nearly four weeks to finish this part. Once it's complete it's going to be about a metre long (and it's 40 centimetres wide). Can't wait for it to be finished and hanging on my wall Cool

Tolkien Tapestry - Melian section

Close up of Melian section.

I'll post the rest of it once it's completed Wink

Wow, Kel, that's gorgeous [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd love to hear more about it, i.e.; size, materials, is it going to be a wall hanging? And, the bonus question.. what's the section below the Melian section (or is that a surprise)? Wink

*peers closely* Is that needlepoint? [In reply to] Can't Post

You've done a lot of work on this, especially with drawing it in free-hand and working out the pattern from there!

It's lovely! And is that some Tengwar to the right of it?

Thanks Altaira [In reply to] Can't Post

It is going to be a wall hanging.

I done on very fine tapestry canvas (13ct, which means 52 of the little squares in 10cms of canvas). It's size is 100cm (length) x 40cm (width) and I'm doing it all in embroidery threads, rather than wool as the holes are so fine.

Bonus question... well I've titled it The Eldar Maternal Line of the Peredhil, does that give you a clue? WinkLaugh

Just teasing, after Melian is Luthien Tinuviel, then Luthien's mortal device and last is Idril Celebrindal. I'm hoping to have it all finished in another three months, depending on time and family of course Wink

I've actually got an album charting it's course on fb, the images are quite large, to show all the detail, so I've only posted the completed Melian images here.

Yep it's all done in needlepoint [In reply to] Can't Post

DMC thread to be precise Cool.

Thanks dernie, from start of drawing to now has taken over 2 months, the actual needlework on this one took a little bit over 3 weeks.

And yep, all of the devices have their names in Tengwar written next to them, it's done in a pale pink, which looks lovely against the grey/blue background, but it's a bit hard to see in the photos. Ah well, it's gonna look great on my wall SmileHeart

Thanks Patty :) [In reply to] Can't Post

I do knit as well, but with three boys, that tends to be more utilitarian, they're not really into pretty or decorative. So tapestry/needlework fulfills my more creative side CoolHeart

I've nearly finished the first Luthien now, so it's all coming along nicely Cool

And to really make my day, my youngest has decided he wants to try tapestry, so we bought him a small kiddy one the other day. He's taken to it really well too. EvilHeart He keeps telling me he wants to be like me when he grows up, and do great things like I do, gotta love seven year olds LOL
