Balrogs with wings [In reply to] Can't Post

Jen the Balrog: Wings? I don't have wings.
Kira the Balrog: Of course not. You're a boy.

And in contests between boys and girls, girls always win.

From IMDB trivia:

"A scene was cut from the finished film that showed Eowyn (Miranda Otto) stripping away her regular clothes and then dressing herself in the armor of a Rohan warrior."

Wings all the way! [In reply to] Can't Post

Little Eruvande, The Little Goblin and I are currently watching FOTR and just watched the bit with the balrog. LE says, "the balrog has wings, you know."

I choke back a *squee* and calmly ask him, "how do you know he has wings?"

He replies, "you can see them; they're made of smoke and bones."

I ask him why would an underground-dwelling creature the size if a balrog have wings at all? Can he fly?

His reply: "Duh! It makes him look scarier! The wings aren't for flying!"

There you have it, folks. (I've never mentioned the wings/no wings debate to my kids. And LE hasn't read the books yet. Soon, though.)
And now I'm going back to my own little geek-fest.
Cool

And suddenly the Tornadoes saw afar off a greenlight, as it were a cloud with a living heart of flame;
and they knew that this was no vision only, but that PJ had made a new thing: The Hobbit, the Film that Is.

Can they even use the wings? [In reply to] Can't Post

In the movie it didn't look like it could use them.

Obviously they can fly. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hence, Gandalf: Fly, you fool! Sly

The movie misinterpreted the whole thing: made it look like Gandy was actually calling to the Fellowship, made it look like the balrog couldn't fly if it tried...

You can't blame Roggy for falling. Have you ever tried flying when you're smashing into rock walls and some guy is whacking your head with a sword?
