"Frodo Is Great, Who Is That?" ... Could it be Lindir? Can't Post

With Bret McKenzie cast in the role, can we assume that we now know Figwit's true identity? After all, "Figwit" appeared in the Council of Elrond scene in the movie, and (I believe I'm right in saying) Lindir was at the Council in the novel? Lindir is definitely an Elf of Rivendell, as Bret's role in ROTK suggests Figwit to be. Could it be that they are the same character?

I don't remember [In reply to] Can't Post

if he was present at the council in the book. I think he wasn't.
Lindir means "singer" and he is believed to be singer, minstrel.
I wonder if he will be the same elf who appears in LOTR and is called Figwit by fans.

Supposedly confirmed already [In reply to] Can't Post

According to THIS LINK, it was confirmed in Variety magazine that he'd be playing an elf called Lindir.

He features somewhere [In reply to] Can't Post

in the Rivendell chapters in FOTR. Whether or not he was at the Council, I can't remember... Wikipedia simply says:

"Lindir is an Elf of Rivendell who listens to Bilbo Baggins declaiming poetry."

I'm intrigued to see how he'll be woven into the story. Perhaps they will use him as the "singer" for those moments in the book were the Elves burst into song? I think I read somewhere that the singing is to remain in the film... It would therefore make sense that they've cast a musician in this role.

Cool!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

It would be great to see Figwit .. . I mean Lindir again. Yes he dicusses poetry with Bilbo, after an evening of singing. Bilbo writes a sing they sing, and Aragorn has written some of the lyrics for it. Wow that would be cool:) It in FotR though :(

I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

thanks for the links [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm really curious what and how big his role will be. I'm sure this beautiful elf has the potential to start a big hysteria among the fangirlsLaugh

Btw the song about Frodo at the end of the second part of the documentary is so funny especially the part "If you want him come and claim him".

And another thought which suddenly struck me.... [In reply to] Can't Post

... Itaril was supposed to be in love with an elf Lord from Rivendell. Lindir is from Rivendell...

Is it possible?

Or just the first sign of madness! Crazy

Figwit still lives! [In reply to] Can't Post

Great to see Brett will be in the Hobbit - that's quite a success story, the whole Figwit phenomenon. Special thanks to Theodred for posting those links! I'd known about the documentary for years (but never seen it) because I went to Edinburgh for my very first TORn Moot, met the girls, and appear in part 3 of the documentary for all of about half a second, leaning on the back of the sofa in the apartment. Ah, happy memories!

but I don't think Lindir(Figwit) will appear anywhere else than in Rivendell. But who knows...

Several of us have met him [In reply to] Can't Post

G-H was part of the group who went to Edinburgh to meet Bret and Jemaine, and over the years many of us have met them. I was able to connect with the Flight of the Conchords in Montreal before they were signed for the TV series. I went with Roheryn and glorfin2 to Montreal for the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and we met the guys for lunch. It was interesting to see them several years later, after the HBO series became a hit, and reflect on the changes over the years....

Looking back at that documentary [In reply to] Can't Post

He looked so young! Mind you, I could have been the mother of any one of them, which is mildly embarrassing...Tongue He was - well, they all were - very cute and a little bemused by the attention, I think.

Occam says... [In reply to] Can't Post

Occam says:
-If the same actor is playing a Rivendell elf in both films, then it's the same character
-Lindir is ELF LORD from the Hobbit casting call

Occam is sometimes wrong, but that's how I'd place my money.

Lindir perhaps isn't the elf lord from the casting call. [In reply to] Can't Post

The elf lord of Rivendell from casting call was a warrior. Lindir is senior official at Elrond's court(according to Ian's blog).

I guess it's time to pull it out and give it another listen, in honor of Figwit revisited!
