But... I would imagine that, etymologically, the word 'news' is derived from 'new', i.e. 'news' means 'that which is new'... So, given 'old news' (as a phrase) is a bit contradictory, and, with a similar derivation as 'news', perhaps 'olds' would work... I really wish I hadn't said anything now...

It sounds like the sort of humor I grew up with :-) My dear grandmother, now long departed, was fond of that sort of joke. I'm glad you posted it.

Dora was Drogo's sister, and the eldest surviving female relative of Bilbo and Frodo; she was ninety-nine, and had written reams of good advice for more than half a century." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "A Chance Meeting at Rivendell" and other stories leleni at hotmail dot com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

She was the best I've ever known at "It Pays to Enrich Your Word Power" from the Readers' Digest. Consistent 19s or 20s every one I ever knew her to take - or my mom for that matter. Mom would score consistently 18s - 19s, grandma 19s - 20s and I was consistently 17s - 18s. So even though I consistently beat the scoring system for very good word knowledge I was only 3rd in my family!

...if Hollywood stopped making awful movies that are reviled and forgotten after opening weekend we wouldn't have a problem.
