It must be really frustrating to be inundated with requests from people who think they have a shot at becoming extras. Rather than opening the Facebook floodgates, it would have been better to do another Q&A at AICN, where the commenters would be much more knowledgeable about the project.

Would it be possible for us to come up with our top 10 questions and send it as a group from TORN? That would save Peter time and we might actually get some "good" questions answered... or am I just being a snob about it?

It doesn't mean you're wrong, though.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. It's quite ridiculous really... I hope one of the questions is "where will film 1 end?" but I doubt he'll answer that one. Someone should also ask about the Dol Guldur storyline and how it works with Bilbo's story etc. Reading those comments a lot of people still think film 1 is TH and film 2 is the bridge, I hope he doesn't waste a whole question clearing that up.

And asked a handful of questions. 1) Can you elaborate on (or hint at) how you plan on handling the "talking animal" motif in The Hobbit? It's a given that Smaug will talk, but what about Gwaihir, the Wargs, and the Spiders? 2) To what extent is the prosthetic work for the thirteen dwarves? About equal to Gimli's (John Rhys-Davies'), or less than? 3) I know you probably can't/won't answer this, but I have to ask. When can we expect to hear who will be voicing Smaug?

That alot of the people posting on Facebook are casual fans that aren't too learned in the filmmaking process, and probably aren't exactly Tolkien experts. It's no surprise to me that alot of them aren't up-to-date on The Hobbit developments. Sure, some of the questions seem silly (or even stupid) to us, and alot of the questions already have answers. But I think the important thing to remember is that everyone posting is excited for these films. There's nothing silly or stupid about unanimous, positive energy. Though I will agree, the constant "Will you hire me???!!1" questions have my eyes rolling. Though I think those are jokes more than anything.

It shouldn't be. Bilbo doesn't even realize he's invisible at first. If everything suddenly became grey and hazy once he put the ring on, he'd realize immediately that something was amiss. Plus, given that Sauron is not re-established at this point, I imagine the Ring World would appear a bit calmer. Less of a haze/flame effect. It is an interesting question, because while it shouldn't be the same as in LoTR, it does have to effectively show that Bilbo is in the Ring World. Maybe something subtle like a heightened contrast in the colors or something.
