** Founder's Day -- Top 10 Rejected Changes to The Hobbit films ** Can't Post

10. Bilbo catches Smaug toasting marshmallows with his fiery breath

9. Radagast the Brown's color too boring, changed to Radagast the Electric Blue

8. "My name is Thorin Oakenshield. You killed my father. Prepare to die!"

7. Bilbo conceals the Ring from Gollum and wins the riddle contest; Gollum willingly shows him the way out (wait, Tolkien already changed this ...)

6. "Thranduil's House Party" used as concept art (Click here ... if you dare!)

5. Entire score consists of "Tra-la-la-lally, way down in the valley!"

4. Beorn transforms into a panda bear.

3. All dwarf actors fired and replaced by Deep Roy.

2. Smaug is really an iguana shot in extreme close-up.

And the number one rejected change:

1. "Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go ..."

With caffeine, all things are possible.

The pity of Bilbo will screw up the fate of many.

How do we know these were rejected? Evil

panda-bear Beorn Sly

..The land of long-forgotten name:
......no man may ever anchor near;
..No steering star his hope may aim,
......for nether Night its marches drear,
..And waters wide no sail may tame,
......with shores encircled dark and sheer.

..O! Haven where my heart would be!
......the waves beat upon thy bar
..For ever echo endlessly,
......when longing leads thy thought afar

Yay! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've missed your Top 10 lists - it's great to see it back! :D

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

But part of me still hopes [In reply to] Can't Post

we might see it in an outtakes reel someday. Evil

"Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them.
Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you."

4. Beorn transforms into a panda bear.

Kung-Fu Beorn?

"Who the hell are you?" he growled.
"I the hell am Harry," I said.
He pulled out his own gym bag and slammed the car door closed. "You always a wiseass?"
"No. Sometimes I'm asleep."
