BEARDS, beards, and more Beards... (and voice) [In reply to] Can't Post

I love the tiny shots of the dwarves beards. They really will all have very different and unique beards.. awesome.

On the subject of who it was talking at the end... I'm 99.99% that it wouldn't be Ian Holm. I'd guess that others are right, it sounds like Martin Freeman doing an impression of Ian Holm for sure.

I can hardly believe it's happening [In reply to] Can't Post

It feels so much more real now.

Before it was easy to forget that they had actually started shooting, but now I don't think it will ever slip my mind LaughLaugh

It made me so incredibly happy to hear PJ's speech about being genuinely excited to be back filming Middle-Earth.

*bounces up and down with excitement*

THANK YOU PJ Laugh

I looked down to see how long it was, expecting maybe three minutes. When I saw 10 I got really excited.

Oh god, oh god, oh god...... [In reply to] Can't Post

That just about sums it up.... That video shows every reason I went to school for film. To work on something like this (god I wish I was working on The Hobbit) would be my ultimate dream come true. It's not just the story, it's that everyone seems so passionate about the project. And the camaraderie that they must feel, is something I hope I get to experience some day. Every single person working on this in any way should realize how lucky they are.

And, as a side note, the sense of nostalgia I got from watching this video was overwhelming! I'll admit, I cried. Thank you Pete and everyone else involved in making this happen!

go ahead, show them the sets, not-really-rehearsals, and a shot being taken, but no, we have to blur out the concept art across the room *laughs* TongueLaugh

I love Peter Jackson [In reply to] Can't Post

I love his enthusiasm, his love for the source material, and his generosity towards us fans that he'll share this with us. And I love the cast and crew - it's like seeing old friends again, spotting Richard Taylor and Tania Rodgers and Andy Serkis and Kiran Shah and John Howe and Alan Lee, all back for another trip to Middle-earth. And major kudos to Richard Armitage for the Maori. I think that was when I began to cry!

For the first time, I'm truly, honestly excited about these films now. Before, I was happy they were being made - and I was pretty excited about visiting Hobbiton in November - but seeing that video has got me fannishly bouncing and flailing again. Wheeeee!

Concept art [In reply to] Can't Post

I noticed when Hadlow moved his hand, some of the concept art became clearer, and at the bottom was a long line of concept art; some hunched over human looking creatures with pale skin, like the one shown earlier in the video. This makes me think that the orcs will look very pale, due to the years in darkness.

*scratches head* [In reply to] Can't Post

You just said that it wasn't Ian Holm, and then that it most likely was...

Anyhow, as for my opinion, I just assumed from the moment I heard the voice that it was Martin Freeman. I don't really have any reasoning to back that up, but it didn't sound like Ian Holm to me, too young. I'll have to watch the video again, as I wasn't really thinking about who it was, since I just assumed (not that I wouldn't be watching it again anyways Wink ).

he has developed a very good ear for pronunciation. That he did it so effortlessly has me all kinds of impressed.

Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

Probably. [In reply to] Can't Post

But I don't think any of it was that surprising. It was always pretty obvious that we'd be hearing the Shire and Rivendell themes again in some form. But I really doubt the fellowship theme will be in the Hobbit because it wouldn't make sense...

Goblinsessss [In reply to] Can't Post

It's hard to see it clearly, but the creature being tested with motion capture reminds me of the very early designs for the goblins for the Lord of the Rings when they were originally going to be completely CG and more animal-like.

Glad to know Richard's Maori sounded good [In reply to] Can't Post

I knew it was Maori, but don't have an ear for it so had no idea how authentic it sounded.

My guess is that because they had such a good long while to be doing training and rehearsing and the like, that they also gave them a training on what to expect from this ceremony. And just like they will have Elven and Dwarven language specialists to help with pronunciation issues, I'm sure they had a Maori or two on hand to help Richard practice.

All in all, I loved that greeting bit, not all countries do something of that nature. The Chinese tend to do a Lion Dance, and in Hawaii they do a similar type of ceremony, and that's all I've heard tell of.

Voice? [In reply to] Can't Post

Great stuff - doubts dissolving in a puff of anticipation.

Who did the voiceover is, to me, the greatest question of the video. Great if it's Holm, and equally great if it's Freeman as Holm. Then again, it could be someone else entirely.

The sentiment that the line carries is, however, the best bit of all.
