Now when we've all seen the 10-min video... Can't Post

we could start discussing about the stuff we've seen, because finally we now have some solid ground.

Some notes/questions I made apart from the obvious ones:

1. Andy Serkis was mo-caping some sort of monster in a studio... surely that was not Gollum? And if it wasn't...well... what was it then? The goblins/orcs in LOTR wasn't CGI so I dont get what this monster is - it could be Andy mo-caping the trolls but those trolls sure looks twisted. This one should be discussed for sure!

2. Yay! Well get to see the Unexpected Party with 15 members sitting around the table. Some of us had fears that this could be hard to do.

3. We've seen Bombur! (First I thought it was Dori as PJ said "Hadlow" as he entered the room but the camera cut and I immediately recognized Stephen Hunter's voice as Bombur) ! Purple outfit with white beard. Cool.

4. What "cool parts" of Rivendell do you think we'll see?! A hint could be that Lindir has been cast already.

5. Looks like PJ won't bother with the consistency thing about Bilbo picking up the ring in LOTR because it looked different here, which is good I think. I dont think PJ wants to go the George Lucas-road.

6. I spy some comic relief in Bag End! Like Freeman carrying the dwarves axes, should be fun.

7. In the welcome ceremony, who are all those guys sitting together with the cast (are they relatives to the cast, perhaps?)

8. I really liked Armitage's speech, he seems to be a gentle man.

9. The biggest mystery! "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit". Who can identify the owner of that voice? I sure can't, but I really liked it.

The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

Ian Holm? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm convinced that the voice that says "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit" is Ian Holm. What does everyone else think? Am I being too hopeful??

Whoever it is, sounds like he's emulating Tolkien... judging from recordings I heard of the professor reading from his works...

Maybe... [In reply to] Can't Post

It's more than likely that it will either be Ian or Martin. It's just the "hobbit" bit at the end which sounds exactly like Ian. To me as well it isn't the right tone for Martin.
But who cares! I'm exicted either way!!

1 minute and 10 seconds into the video... [In reply to] Can't Post

... I'm racking my brains to figure out what creature that is. The design looks very GDT-like. It almost looks like a spider to me (perhaps they'll CGI in the rest of the limbs), but then why would the narrator say "we wanted to create a very non-human shape"? Hmm...

Goblin creature...or Gollum... [In reply to] Can't Post

Hmmm maybe it's gollum. He looks very much like Alan Lee's design with those huge eyes. Maybe Gollum will get a revamp?

I'm sure that was Dori [In reply to] Can't Post

PJ did say "Hadlow", it sounds like Mark, and Dori does have a purple cloak in the book afterall. Watching in HD, it's Mark's name on the purple outfit. I'm glad they're emphasising the hoods and cloaks and not making the Dwarves too armoured at that point, a nice vambrace was visible. I reckon the three ginger false beards we saw will be for Bifur, Bofur and Bombur (or it could be for Gloin and Oin).

I kept trying to pause that drawing PJ was inspecting, but I couldn't get a good look at it. It looks branchy though, must be Mirkwood (Dol Guldur, or the Elven Mountains, well, we won't know at this point). That was also quite an interesting axe/spear/sword hybrid being made, must be Dwarven, and I looked the look of that bow with its gold bit, must be Dwarven, but it's distinguishable enough from the Lorien bows for it to fit the Mirkwood Elves. Those were definitely Hobbit feet, they were just very close to the camera.
