"A spokeswoman for The Hobbit said she could not immediately confirm Variety's report."

Of course. I wonder where the info comes from. Would be pretty cool if it's really official Laugh

Lindir [In reply to] Can't Post

is an elf in Rivendell. I doubt he'd actually be named in the movie though - just as Brett's character wasn't named in ROTK.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Interesting... [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't know what to make of this quite yet, even if he is a canon character...will it be minor? Will he appear in Rivendell? Is he the "elf lord" from the casting call?...

No, no, no! [In reply to] Can't Post

Nothing against the character "Lindir" or this actor BUT, this has red flags all over the place. First, he wasn't in the book, which leads me to the conclusion that he is the "ELF LORD from Rivendell who falls in love with ITARIL" from that list.

Look, the paper even adressed him as an Elf Lord in Rivendell. Red flags!

The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

There is a Lindir. [In reply to] Can't Post

But in LOTR, not the Hobbit.

He's the one chaffing with Bilbo about his song in the Hall of Fire, claiming that he couldn't tell which parts Bilbo wrote, and which parts Aragorn wrote.

It is always those with the fewest sensible things to say who make the loudest noise in saying them. --Precious Ramotswe (Alexander McCall Smith)

Another 'source' [In reply to] Can't Post

reports it too (but nothing with a reliable source, like WB or Brett himself)

It also speaks about the framerate of the movie. 48fps.. Don't know if that is true, it links to another post of if.com where it is said that Andrew Lesnie said it himself. Maybe this is news for another thread?

ROFL! [In reply to] Can't Post

Oh, that is good! Let the Rumors Begin! Laugh

Actually, considering who he is, he'll probably be the one they stick up in a tree with an Elvish guitar, singing some sort of Tra-la-la-lally song...

Go for it [In reply to] Can't Post

Fair cop, good elf, lets have him. I'm kind of hoping we're not going to have a kind of nudge-nudge wink-wink 'look who we made famous' musical cameo but i wouldn't mind an expansion of his role at all and if he does try out his pipes on set then it won't be the end of the world, just not tra-la-lally thank you very much (actually maybe Howard Shore could come up with a sombre but accurate Sindarin translation of the song).

Mac, I would not think that you would get that reversed. [In reply to] Can't Post

Remember it is Itaril that harbors the secret passion for the Elf Lord; not the other way around. My big question is: How do the two meet?

I like this one [In reply to] Can't Post

As they're going to fill the backrounds and (hopefully) small events with actual charactes - unlike the books which could just mention there's some faceless people around - it's nice they're utilizing canon characters.

Also, it's nice that they will put Lindir into focus. I've been curious about the way fanfic writers and fanartists seem to all but forget his existence, while for example Erestor has not only fanbase but also fanon personality. God knows where it comes from. Or the idea that the Rivendell twins are mischievous brats acting like preteenagers...

Which remainds me, are they going to use Elladan & Elrohir? It'd be sweet if they did. If only as joining the midsummer party.

Rivendell and Mirkwood have a cultural exchange project [In reply to] Can't Post

which includes Lindir, a musican, performing for a time in Thranduil's halls.

I can already feel the "The akward tomboy falls for the kind, effeminate cultured guy" vibes. Tongue

Which came first for Brett... [In reply to] Can't Post

Popularity via FIGWIT, or popularity via Flight of the Conchords? I'm not sure where I saw him first.

Either way I love it. I was wondering if he would be included in the Hobbit. I imagine he'd be a fun guy to have around the set.

Or give us a scene which is integral to the Aragorn/Arwen love story.... [In reply to] Can't Post

...And by extension integral to Tolkien's own love story.

I may be in a (i've got to say rather surprising) minority but frankly i'll be gutted if they don't show it or at least don't film it (extended edition/anniversary cut is fine by me).

I discussed it some time ago with one Tolkien fan and he had some interesting ideas.
