Who should Howard S team up with this time? Can't Post

In LOTR's, he and Fran hand-picked Annie Lennox among others. Who do you want to see (or hear) in The Hobbit, as vocal artist?

Sting's Songs from the Labyrinth... [In reply to] Can't Post

Have me convinced he should do one of the theme songs, then again, it's been pointed out it's likely they'll go with women. Then again... this is a dwarf movie... maybe deep male voices with a male chorus are in order...

I'd actually like to hear... [In reply to] Can't Post

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr compose a ballad for the Elves. The Beatles were Tolkien fans and wanted to star in their own adaptation of LotR at one point, and early Beatles music would certainly fit in with the "tra-la-la" Rivendell schtick.

I would rather be watching Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"...it's going to be a long few years.

... to give a sense of continuity.

It will be especially interesting to see what choices he/they make for the dwarves as the dwarves in the book do seem rather musical. And just as last time Howard Shore gave a different voice and sound to Rivendell and Lorien I suppose the Mirkwood elves should have their own 'voice' too.

Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin to that list...Hes a huge Tolkien fan & there are numerous references to LOTR in Zeppelin lyrics. (Misty Mountain Hop)
I had the pleasure of seeing Robert Plant & his Band Of Joy tour this past January in Toronto...unforgettable show.

Canadian legends Rush were also big fans...they wrtote a song about Rivendell entitled...you guessed it, Rivendell.

Personally, I hope theyve considered another Canadian, Loreena McKennit. Just go to youtube, listen to the somg
Dantes Prayer...you can just close your eyes & imagine it being a part of the Hobbit films.

There was a rumour a while back that Tom Waits had been contacted for whatever reason...
this Im also hoping to be true cause if you listen to the song Gods Away On Business, you can almost hear the song the Dwarves sing out to Bilbo while theyre ordering him around his pantry for tea & cakes & more ale....
Chip the galsses and crack the plates...thats what Bilbo Baggins hates...too perfect.

Absolute die hard Beatles fan, but I just wouldnt want to see McCartney & Starr collaborating for this...
...just dont think it would work
Im a huge fan of Enya but I think shes been used enough for the other films...but I wouldnt complain if she returned.
Amy Lee...not at all a fan...sorry.

as very much as I'd love to hear Enya again, I'd like to hear a different person for this different part of the saga. I don't know who that would be, though. Somebody really hobbity sounding, I guess?

Yes, true... [In reply to] Can't Post

I wasn't thinking of Enya for everything, just as the voice of Rivendell - in the same way as I'm hoping Rivendell will look like the same place - albeit we might see some different rooms and angles (like maybe more of Elrond's library - I can hope!)

In general I'd agree though that the voices should be different - and as Magpie pointed out somewhere, creative people don't normally enter a new project wanting to repeat themselves, it's likely that Howard Shore will come up with new ideas. I just like Enya! Wink

Hobbity music would be folk, wouldn't it? That's how it seems to me.

Indeed, very appropriate for Elvish songs. You can find clips of him recording it on youtube.

Here's a singer I just thought of...not my style, but might fit the movies... [In reply to] Can't Post

The Rankin Family from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (where I live). They are a Gaelic singing group, and one of the three sisters "Raylene", may have a voice for the Hobbit?

I'll let you be the judge, because I've heard their music too much over the years on the radio (not that it's my listening style)...

"Fare The Well Love" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGHq_m8E1o8 (duet with Jimmy & Raylene Rankin)

The quote function is kind of buggy [In reply to] Can't Post

There are two ways to handle it.

I don't ever use the quote button you can chose when you mean to reply. I just click reply. Then I copy the part I want to quote. Paste the quote in your compose field and hit enter 3 or 4 times after the part you want to quote. (alternately, you can hit enter a bunch of time, place your cursor at the top of the field and paste the quote).

Then highlight the stuff you just pasted and hit the quote button in the tool bar.

What you have to do is get the cursor for writing your own post on the far side of the code for making a quote and it just doesn't work. So you create a buffer with those line breaks (hitting enter) that gives you a place to put your cursor that is outside of the quote code *before* you make the quote code.

The other work around is, hit quote like you've been doing (instead of 'reply to this post'), then... when you find you can't get your cursor to fall outside the quote area... find the button on the bottom of the compose field that says, "Switch to Basic Editor". Now you'll be able to see the code for the quote and you can hit enter a few times (creating this buffer). When you've done that, switch back to Advanced Editor.

I almost never want to quote the entire post so I use the first tactic. But both work. The one difference is, if you hit 'quote' as you start to reply, it will say 'in reply to'. If you do it by using the quote button (which is the quotation marks, btw), it will say 'quote'.

Loreena Mckennit is a really good idea.... [In reply to] Can't Post

.... beautiful voice, and quite distinctive.

But I'd also like to hear a male singer in there somewhere. Not sure who. I'm just watching the Sharpe DVDs at the moment and noticing how they used more and more of the folk singer John Tams, who was in the cast, to give the series a musical voice. Would be good to hear them do something of the same sort with 'The Hobbit'. Maybe one of the dwarves can sing - as Billy Boyd did.
