sums up all that one could wish for those involved in the disaster, near or far. All I can add is that my thoughts are with them as they go through this nightmare.

This is a thread to support our friends in Christchurch, but there is a thread discussing the possible effects on the movie on The Hobbit board.

We have power, water, toilet, internet, and food, etc. Even the fish and chip shop is open. And much to my relief my parents have moved to riccarton from north new brighton today.

May Rhys find peace and healing on his journey beyond us. And may all the best of him live on in those lives that he touched.
Life is beautiful and dangerous! Beware! Enjoy!

This post It was a thread, but it was deleted and reposted in the main Hobbit/earthquake thread
..The land of long-forgotten name: ......no man may ever anchor near; ..No steering star his hope may aim, ......for nether Night its marches drear, ..And waters wide no sail may tame, ......with shores encircled dark and sheer. ..O! Haven where my heart would be! ......the waves beat upon thy bar ..For ever echo endlessly, ......when longing leads thy thought afar

As others have said, do leave the area if you possibly can. I cannot imagine how upsetting it all is. I'm so sorry. But I have to say - your post at first deeply saddened me but then you made me smile at the end with your hedgehogs remark! Teehee. Nice to know that nature goes on even in the midst of such carnage, don't you think? Hang in there.

What a lovely sentiment. Rhys himself would have been impressed. While he studied to be a journalist, he loved to write poetry. He was a gentle and kindly young man.

I knew what fault line California had, and that they've been studied a while, but I did not realize that Christchurch's was completely unknown until last year, and I did not realize they had a reverse fault (which plate is sliding under which?) Though, I just looked up a map of plates, and, yea, it looks like the Australian plate and the Pacific plate meet smack dab on the middle of New Zealand, somewhere around South Island.

The first thing I thought of, like most of us outside the area, was Torn people who might be there. Just adding my thoughts to everyone elses! a.s.

I am so sorry to read about your losses. It is bad enough once, but three times. You will be in our thoughts. I know words aren't enough, but as I found out when my son died, the caring words really help!
