So, what are your thoughts on it? I've arranged the poll as allowing multiple votes, but try to pick only one out of each category

But it's a love-hate thing. I love being in touch with my friends and how it facilitates sharing, not just of personal information but also of articles or videos we find interesting... ...but sometimes I wish I could be free of it. I hate that, at least in my social circles, nothing can happen without there first being a facebook "event" created for it. Or angsty status' posted by people in your networks. And you wish you could unfriend them, but what if they notice? It's a real nail biter. ;p Nonetheless, I find it fascinating how it has completely changed how my age group (let's say, 18-25?) interacts and socializes.

I wanted to say as well that I appreciated Witchy King's comments here very much. Nicely said Wyki.

I fully expected someone to do so, but it took less than 10 minutes from the time I put the poll up *rolls her eyes* (we should have an smiley for that, by the way)

it doesn't suit me. It isn't because I hate it but because it isn't a form of communication that suits my personality and preferences. When the whole world is on it, I'll sit in the garden by myself and enjoy the birds. :-)

I'd probably be on it more, except that it's blocked at work. Anyway, I'd love to have more TORn FB friends, so send me an IM!

The world would be much nicer if it were quieter and more peaceful. Sometimes I think I'm a premature fifty year old, but sometimes I don't.

Facebook is exactly the kind of media I don't like. And everybody saying "You absolutely *must* be on Facebook" is exactly the kind of comment to strenghten my decicion to stand against the current. If I need to connect with someone physically far away from me, I call him/her through Skype. And then we can see and hear each other through video conversation. That's it.

I ignore Facebook as much as I possibly can. But one thing that really irritates me is the way the lazy media here will base a report around what sort of comments people are leaving on it, for example if there is some sort of tragic accident, they will just pull out a whole lot of 'txt speak' direct quotes and print those. I know that is not exactly the fault of Facebook itself, but I dislike the way it seems to be permeating everything. Okay, rant over. Now, where are those lovely birds...

Just around the time I "discovered" FB I started going to Youtube as well. My first taste of clicking on popular videos was a series of video rants by people who had been duped by the ostensibly real lonelygirl videos. I remember thinking then that I do not like where this appears to be headed...

I'm almost embarrassed to say I was one of those two who voted for "I love it". I don't know, but it really keeps me in contact with many people I wouldn't easily have contact with. It allows me to share the stuff I find on the Internet, and to be aware of what friends both past and present are doing with their lives. I have met wonderful people through facebook as well. To me, it really has become an extension of my life -for better or worse, I know-, but I must say I thoroughly enjoy the site. On the other hand, I opened three twitter accounts I never use (I just wanted to make my name unavailable)... Unless you're famous or a communicator of some sort, I don't think anyone has something *that* important or interesting to share all day, but that's just me.

or twitter, but I have instructed close friends that they are to sock me directly in the jaw if they ever see me participating. I don't want to know my own thoughts sometimes...why would I be interested in following somebody else's ? Hold on a minute...what if Professor Tolkien were alive and he had a facebook page/ twitter account ? Hmmm...i'd probably have to follow that. I seriously doubt he would though
