Tolkien reference on "Freaks & Geeks" Can't Post

I'm watching this series on DVD, and just saw the un-aired fourth episode (NBC thought it was "too rough" to be shown). The show is set in 1980. One of the characters (14-year-old Sam) is being bullied by an older female student, and when one of his (diminutive) friends tries to stick up for him, she calls him "Bilbo Baggins" (twice during the episode). OK, I guess you had to be there!

(Seriously, this is one of those series that makes you both both LOL and cry every episode. Groundbreaking TV that lasted less than a full season. Cast includes Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Busy Philipps, and the amazing John Francis Daley.)

Love those surprises! [In reply to] Can't Post

Interesting they'd call him Bilbo and not Frodo, especially since it was "Sam" that was getting teased ;)

I never watched the show when it was on, but I've only heard good things about it. *sigh* Isn't it sad that the unique out-of-the-box programs seem to get LOST.
