"Persbrandt’s shootings will take place during a couple of weeks early next year.", so I don't think it will be Bard or Thranduil, since their roles seem to be bigger. I don't think all Thranduil or Bard scenes in the movie could be shot in a "couple of weeks", especially since the whole shoot is supposed to last almost a whole year.
My guess is Beorn, although he is closest to how I picture Thranduil.
Please, give us back Glorfindel!!!

I have watched a good deal of Beck movies, and his performance in that series, always cracks me up. Not because that role is funny, but because Gunvald is so damn "straight forward, and uses some quite colourfull language. The fact that he uncovers sick people for who they really are, and that he says straight out what he thinks about them, is also something I love about that character
But Ive also seen other sides of his acting, both in beck and a Norwegian movie, called " (the) Kautokeino opprøret (rebellion)". In Beck, I remember him having some very emmotional scenes, where his performance, is quite breathtaking..
I might have suggested Bard, but seing the time constraint, I dont think so. It might be though that those two weeks, are just his first shooting though session though, and that he is just going to shoot some other work, before coming back to shoot in NZ. He will definatly Not! be cast as Thranduil, its just not in his nature, he probably could have pulled it off, but its so unlike him.
Beorn, or a Dwarf in the prologue/backstory is my best bet. But as others have said, Mikael Persbrandt, would make a good Beorn, and I must say I agree. Its probably the most likely.
However, whichever role he gets, this is good news  .

that the cast includes actors who are well-known in their own countries, but not necessarily well-known on a global scale. There are Tolkien fans around the world, and I like how the cast reflects the multi-national fan base.

He has facial features very suitable for elfin tweaking.....
Bard does not seem quite right to me.....but I am not saying he could not pull it off.
If he was fitted for a costume he is not CGI / voice.

It also says, in a related article that Persbrant was in New Zealand two or three years ago with the asteemed swedish theatre Dramaten, acting. But it doesn't say what or specificly where. Perhaps PJ got his eyes on him back then??

He's a good-looking guy, but his face is a little too middle-aged for an Elf, at least IMHO.
I could totally see him as Bard, though.

... tho' Dain seems to me to be another possibility, made all the more likely if he's tall. Wasn't John Rhys Davies the tallest of the Fellowship actors? And as several people have said, it can't be a very big part if he's only filming for a couple of weeks.

It's ashame if they'd replace Marton Csokas.His small yet slightly expanded part in FOTR rooted deep in my mind and I was always picturing him while I was reading his expanded role in Unfinished Tales.Marton Csokas is a well-established NZ actor, with one of his most proeminent Hollywood roles being Guy Lusignan in 2005's Kingdom of Heaven.

looks like a good potential Bard to me. I can't really picture him as Beorn as some people are suggesting – Beorn should be bigger and bulkier, like Ron Perlman or Brian Blessed. I suppose Persbrandt would make an acceptable Thranduil, but he really seems more like a Man to me. Laketown is located in the northern regions of Middle-earth, so I can sort of see why they would decribe the character as 'Nordic'.
As for Cate Blanchett, I don't think this newspaper would be given that kind of brand-new casting information and then casually toss it into the discussion like that. I think they only mentioned Blanchett because they thought she was more well-known by their Swedish readers... notice that they only mention her in the context of Persbrandt. It's 'Persbrandt is going to meet Cate Blanchett', not 'We are proud to exclusively announce that Cate Blanchett will be in The Hobbit'. It's almost as if they're taking her participation for granted, rather than stating it as a piece of news. I'd take it with a grain of salt.
Here is the image which convinced me that Persbrandt would be a good fit for Bard.

If this were just a baseless rumor, he would have discarded it as such. But this is the response from his agent:
Jansson: "No comment."
Nojesbladet: "Do you deny this information?"
Jansson: "I have no comment as regarding to it."
This simply reeks of truth.
Now, the two bits of information.
-"Nordic ties."
-Couple of weeks of shooting early next year.
Now, we know (via Ms. Boyens) that the Hobbiton shoot will only last a week or so. Add this to his large stature, and I think we can conclude that he won't be a hobbit. And if it's true that he's only shooting for a few weeks in early 2011, then we can safely rule out a dwarf role. Which leaves the likely suspects:
-Beorn
-Thranduil
-Bard
-Master of Lake-town
I've never kept my fears of Beorn being replaced with Radagast a secret, so a part of me hopes he is Beorn just so I can finally breath a sigh of relief knowing that the Bear Man is intact. Still, I could see him in any of the roles above (though I have my heart set on Michael Fassbender for Bard at the moment).
I've never heard of him, and I've never seen him in anything, so again I would be at Peter Jackson's mercy.

I really hope this is just a rumour after all. I may be Swedish, but I can't stand Persbrandt. He's got such a bad attitude, and although he's a decent actor, he's quite overrated. If this proves to be true, I hope he has very few lines and/or isn't recognizeable at all.
As for his agent not commenting on this; it's very good publicity even if it isn't true, and imo it makes sense not to flat out deny it.

Since we are getting two films, some roles that appear small in The Hobbit as a book may be extended more in the films. Until we see a script, we just can't assume what we know of the book will be the same in the film. That being said, while they aren't doing a full bridge film as orginally planned, they may well be doing some bridging of stories in these two films, which could also mean characters appearing in the film that don't appear in the books.
Where am I going with this? To Rohan, of course, the only culture in the original films that had a Nordic feel to them, including a language that is Nordic based. I don't believe the timeline is right for a young Theoden, but his father, yup, that fits. Then again, I can't really see why Rohan would play in the Hobbit at all.
From the images, I could see him playing Bard or Beorn, but I think both roles are going to be more than just a few weeks worth of work. Of course, the paper could be wrong about the timeline for work, but then, how much veracity does it have if not all the facts are correct.

that Perlman 'decided' not to be in The Hobbit. His comment was something along the lines of 'When Guillermo was doing it, I was in; now that he's not, I'm out'. This is essentially the same thing that Doug Jones said – and Jones still wants a part in Peter Jackson's version. It seems to me that Guillermo had characters in mind for both actors, but that he had not gotten round to serious discussions with them by the time he departed the project.
